Since 2 of SJW's past names on boards are Rena_Alex_Venus and Just4Russians, I guess she's got a problem here. :p Maybe Alex will run into the "first match in your home town event vs. a lower ranked player" jinx of '02 that Meghann did in Scottsdale and Myskina did in Moscow. (Of course 2 factors in common there were Meghann, who did to the Contessa what Nat did to her; and Le Placid Parisian, who finished her perfect 4-0 season vs. Meghann in the Kremlin Cup's next round). So now it's your turn to share the spotlight, too - so go and win this match, Baby Blue!

I'm always for Lina
but Alex had a good practice in US FC team.
Lina didn't play a single for a month.
So 1 round isn't easy for both, IMHO.

Well.. People tend to talk too much like they knew something..

Lina is not that regular and that good player.. and I believe Alex can very much defeat her.. They're in the same league IMO, with Alex having an advantage because of her better career...

So taking Alex's chances out, is a little bit early.. The must have been praticing better just because she's playing on her hometown.. or whatever... I don't know..

But I think that's her opponent is Lina, I think Alex has chances of advancing.. Same for her (Lina), But i believe more in Alex..

Regardless of this match up, that's just bad analysis. I didn't see Alex's 'better career' (by that, you presumably mean her one better Slam result) give her any sort of advantage over Loit, Razzano, Obata, Randriantefy, Chladkova, Gagliardi, Sanchez Lorenzo or Ruano Pascual this year...

U're counting this year's loss, but Alex didn't play only this year.. She had wins over Huber, Arantxa, Myskina, Daniela, Capriati, Lisa, Dokic, Iroda, Dechy and etc.. She's playing since 1997 and she had more consistent results then Lina, so I can assume she really has a better career than Lina.

Lina hasn't been playing much, but she has been able to string together consistent results. She's just about completed the road to getting her tennis back after her serious injury last year. Alex needed 3 sets to get by the #186 or something like that and just got whupped by Dokic, someone in a huge slump as well. Alex also has a shoulder injury that forced her to withdraw from the doubles in Stanford.

Prediction: 6-4 6-1 for Lina and Alex's slump continues.

Alex has had the better career but Lina has the speed. Until Alex can get her marshmellow head slow runnin around the court havin' ass into the gym she will continue to decline. She also needs to kick her momma to the curb.

Lina 6/3 6/2 because Alex is a slow runnin marshmellow head.

P.S. then again Lina is an error prone injury prone marshmellow head so who the hell knows. Hell does anbody really care? Neither one will make a final or win a tournament this year anyway?

LOL @ Dawn! :p Dawn is right about both Alex and Lina being marshmellow heads! But Alex has the bigger weapons and is more comfortable playing on heard courts. And as tenn_ace said, Lina has just arrived for Russia and I doubt she will be ready for the California heat. Alex 6-4 6-3.

Hi cat. Honeychild it don't matter about Lina coming off the plane from Russia. Alex is still a slow movin' runnin' around the court havin' player.

Really it will all boil down to who makes the less of the potential 125 or so errors. Will Aex make 65 to Lina's 80? Or Will Lina make 43 to Alex's 76?

Marshmellow sucka's. RETIRE ALREADY! Lmao.

you never can tell with alex. she has great weeks every one in a while but i think lina should get through this, even if alex is having one of those great weeks lina has what it takes to go with alex.

even if alex is having one of those weeks, lina has what it takes to go with alex? that's stupid sorry..

Alex on form, it's a top 20 player.. and can defeat anyone (of course with exceptions) and Lina is not an exception.. so.. if alex is in one of her greatest weeks, I don't think Lina will win a set...
