She was leading 4-1 in the 3rd set but lost the last 5 games.
It looks like her opponent had more gas left in the tank in the end.

Interesting match up in R2 at 25k Gatineau. Leylah vs Carol Zhao
Zhao seems to be back in great form. I hope Leylah's level is good enough to have a chance.
Anyhow that will be a good benchmark. We know Carol can play close to the Top 100 level when she peaks.

One more win and she'd get comfortably in the Top 300 for the first time.
Her objective is to get in the Top 200 before the end of the year.
Not impossible at all. She'd need to win at worst three 25k titles (or the equivalent in points from bigger events) and defend a few points from 2018

As for the next round, to defeat #1 seed Hibino might be a big ask at this stage. But an upset is not impossible.
