She's a promising player and deserves this thread, but this win....

She earn 30 points (2/3 of her WTA points) for a win win over another Canadian girl ranked 540.
When WTA/ITF get ride of these WC/Q/LL first round ?

Nice win in R2 vs. Uchijima M. (Jpn)
6-4 7-6(5)
Was behind 2-4 in the 1st set but won 4 games in a row with some brilliant winners CC and DTL
Her opponent was pretty good, hitting very hard, but making a bit more errors than Leylah.
The Canadian in the 2nd set was again behind 3-4, then 5-6 but found a way to prevail again with some very good defense.

The #2 seed Qinwen Zheng in Leylah's half has lost. Perhaps that will help when QF comes
Next opponent in R3 Lisa Pigato of Italie

Another win in R3 for Leylah
6-3 7-5
Started down 0-3, then won 8 games in a row and the set. Her opponent then raised her level, winning 3 games in a row to lead 3-2 in the second set. Leylah struggled a bit to keep the ball in play at times but she corrected than in the end, broke the Italian at a crucial time at 5-5, then served for the match like a Champ.

QF will be vs Leonard M. (Fra)

This is her coach. Not someone from Tennis Canada. She had a talk with him at least 4 times and every time she won the following games. Someone from her familly perhaps?

The interesting part of the article :p

Asked why she feels like a better player in the six months since her run to the Wimbledon semis, Fernandez said: “I can let go of my phone for a good amount of time to be more focused and more dedicated to tennis. And I’m just more prepared – I practiced very hard in the off-season with my coach, and I was just better today.

“Around the time of the US Open I decided I needed to be more focused, because I want to be a professional and want that to be my career. So, my dad gave me a choice: use your phone and do whatever you want with it, or just dedicate yourself to tennis.

“I was very happy that he let me make that decision, because it made me more mature, and made me really think about those important life decisions for me. I was able to make it, and I’m very happy right now.”
