Simona played a wonderful match yet, she's still getting dragged by some posters. I wonder why?
They’re pressed that their basic fave couldn’t win more than four games and couldn’t hit more than 10 winners in a slam SF :tape:

Review of Simona Halep - please read:

- beat Sharapova in last 2 meetings, one being 6-2 6-2
- beat Venus Williams in last 4 meetings: 6-2 6-1; 6-2 6-2; 6-2 6-3; 6-3 6-3.
- beat Azarenka in last 3 meetings (ALL in Slams!): 6-3 4-6 6-4; 7-6 6-2; 6-3 6-1.
- beat dangerous Svitolina for her in last 2 meetings (in Slams won 2/2 against Elina)
- beat Zhang Achilles finally and in straight sets
- beat Kerber 3 times in a row in the last 3 years, before losing to her but at Eastbourne (less important anyway like Simona's Stuttgart win); beat Kerber at AO and FO!
- got revenge on Muguruza and beat her at FO 6-1 6-4

- leads 7-3 against Pliskova
- leads 7-2 against Stephens
- leads Kvitova 4-1
- leads Osaka 4-1
- beat Serena 6-2 6-0 in 2014
- beat Barty in their last meetings, at Madrid (straight sets)

Conclusion: nobody than Serena Williams reigns the tour more than Simona Halep. So it will be battle for everything. NOBODY IN THE CURRENT TOP 10 LEADS SIMONA HALEP HEAD-TO-HEAD (!!!!!).

The 3 times in a row happened before 2016.

The third "win" over Angie in the past three years was a BYE in Stuttgart.

It went like this:

Simona 1 0 Angie
Simona 2 0 Angie
Simona 3 0 Angie
Simona 3 1 Angie
Simona 3 2 Angie
Simona 4 2 Angie
Simona 4 3 Angie
Simona 4 4 Angie
Simona 5 4 Angie
Simona 6 4 Angie
- BYE for Simona (not the same as a win) -
Simona 7 5 Angie

H2H includes a BYE for Simona. In actual played matches, it's 7-6 to Simona.

You can count the BYE in the H2H but you can't say she beat Angie 3 times in a row including that bye.

Yes, Halep deserves respect, she is such an underrated player and with such a "weak" game as her haters say, she is already in her 5th final and 1st Wimbledon final. If she wouldnt be a headcase she would already have 2+ slams.

Who did she beat though? This was her easiest draw yet
Um she beat Azarenka, it-girl Gauff, and top eight Svitolina. Ignoring that players reach slam finals all the time without being a top eight opponent, including whoever she will face in the final, the first two were tough mental tests too considering they came into the match with lots of form/hype. Huge fail of a post.
She beat a washed up former top player (what hype/form have you invented for Azarenka?) <img src="https://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/scared.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Scared" class="inlineimg" /> a 15yo Slam debutante and a nervous player in her Slam SF debut? Let's not pretend her draw has been above MM level.
Don’t make me bring up Svitolina’s draw <img src="https://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/bigwave.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Bigwave" class="inlineimg" />
Where did I claim Svitolina had a tough draw? This thread is about Halep reaching a final, therefore her draw is up to scrutiny and the receipts aren't as impressive as people are trying to claim.

Btw is your fave still in doubles relying on a man's serve to win matches these days? Talk about basic :scared:

R1: Slumping Gavrilova, who's about to take a long break from tennis.
R2: Two points from losing to Gasparyan who retires from injury/cramps.
R3: Useless Sakkari.
R4: Injured Martic.
QF: Exhausted and Inexperienced Muchova.
SF: Dragged by Halep :haha:

For all the crap people give Simona, she shows up the majority of the time and that's more than I can say for alot of other players.

because she's black?
This is obnoxious and uncalled for.

Do better.

5 slam finals is a good number and shows how well rounded she is as a player. If someone asked me whether Simona would make 3 slam finals in 2016 and become the world's no.1 player ending season twice, I would probably have said no, but she has managed to do that with her skillset.

Yes, 5 slam finals is a very good number. Now if she can win this, she really moves up the ladder and past Kvitova Muguruza and maybe Azarenka
She still has a shot to be considered 2nd best to Serena 2010-2020
Pretty sure by the time her career is over only the usual trolls will still debate that. With this final she is guaranteed to become the active player with the most consecutive weeks in the top 10. And making her 5th GS final she has overtaken Azarenka (was already ahead of Kvitova and Muguruza who each have 3).

Most who've followed tennis for long enough have know this could be a possibility ever since Simona broke out in 2013 by winning 6 titles on all surfaces (yet even then there were plenty of people trying to discredit such a unique performance that only a handful of players ever achieved).

More like 2015-2020. Sharapova still dominated her throughout 2012, 2013 and 2014. No way that Halep is second to Serena pre-2014.

I would say she was 4th best though.

1. Serena
2. Sharapova
3. Azarenka
4. Halep

Then Kerber got great after 2015 and I actually think Kerber is the second best player after Serena from 2015-now. Also, Kvitova, two slams in 2011 and 2014, and Muguruza dominated in 2015 onward...until now. I think those are still the best players in the WTA. Vika, Sharapova and Muguruza have obviously struggled with many things but at their best they are still great. I would absolutely say Halep is the most consistent player since 2013. For sure.

She's amazing, been saying for years

The offer to have my babies still stands for her

But she is only 27 and I am 29 so we still have time

But seriously she's such a great player, works so hard, overcame choking, #1, champion, very technical sound game, very strong fitness and now strong mental, she's a joy

I will give you Sharapova, Maria played 6 finals, won 2 and also made the WTA Finals in that time (2010-2019), but I won't Azarenka or Kerber, and like both (been following Vika since before I even knew of Halep's existence if we're being honest). But what this girl has achieved so far it's undeniably amazing. Grand Slam finals on all surfaces, which other than her only Serena and Maria can also claim, and of course never leaving the top 10 since she entered it early in 2014.

Yes, she still has trouble closing, I mean she should have had easily 3 slams and 25 titles by now if she was a closer, but even so that doesn't detract from the simple fact that overall she's been second only to Serena as far as being the most consistent player on tour this decade. Maria still has higher highs, but also also much lower lows, and I don't think that's debatable. Also the whole ban thing makes her achievements during that time fogy, and I understand why some people won't consider her for this top. I'm not among them, although I do believe that FO 2014 final might have had a different outcome if not for you know what.
