She's only 25, but she's a pro player since 1991... Her highest ranking was 37th (8th September 1996), but after she had a knee injury in 1996, she was never able to come back to her best level...
She's won 4 WTA tourneys in doubles, and has beaten Kournikova in the '96 Atlanta Olympics...

Congratulations Laurence, Belgium is very proud of what you did!

That's a pity.

I always loved to watch Laurence play, she has great 'touch'. Too bad that after her injury she wasn't able to come back. I guess the game went her by while she was away. She had some great reasults in juniors and doubles and prior1996 singles results. Her retirement was kinda expected after she got married earlier this year. Seems like all married players quit the tour soon after marriage. Damn marriage!

Well I'm glad she could end her career in beauty by winning the Fed Cup with the Belgian team!

You will be missed Laurence! Enjoy your life after tennis!

A real pity indeed, I will miss her too. She really wasn't fortunate with all the injury troubles.

I wish you all the best in your after-tennis life, Laurence!

TheBoiledEgg, Stephanie De Villé has NOT retired yet. I e-mailed the WTA and they said she just hasn't played since March... Maybe she's injured?

Good luck to Laurence in her future endeavours.
Hmm...
2000 - Dominique Van Roost bows out after playing doubles in Fed Cup.
2001 - Laurence Courtois retires after playing doubles in Fed Cup.

If the trend continues (Els?) Kim and Justine might find themselves playing a lot of Fed Cup matches together.
