Anna Kournikova's miserable season continued with the news that she has been forced to pull out of Wimbledon with a back injury.
A tearful Kournikova withdrew from the DFS Classic grass-court tournament in Birmingham last week after aggravating her injury in practice.

She was also unable to play in the recent French Open.

Kournikova's greatest career moment came at Wimbledon in 1997 when she reached the semi-finals, but her career has stalled since then.

She is yet to win a tour title and her ranking has slipped to 77 in the world.

This year she has won just one tour match and has been plagued by a series of leg and back problems.

Sad news, but contrary to Monica, Anna still has so many good years ahead of her if she get's back healthy. I'm sure she'll recover and we still have many things to look forward to.

Well, if she becomes the player that most people think that she is by next year, she should have no points to defend. We KNOW that she can get a wildcard into any tournament that she wants.

That's only if she gets Gold exemption for next year, she qualifies for it (based on the rules set out this year) She just needs to be listed at worst #13 out of the 20 players (this year she was listed #11, 14-20 on the list are only entited to 3 Gold exempt WC's not unlimited, but they can use the normal WC)
However before she would be allowed to use the GE WC she would have to be ranked inside the top 100. This will all depend on how many events she can play for the rest of the year, as it stands now she has only 67.5 pts for the year, would need to get atleast another 300-330pts for the rest of the year.

However even if she isn't ranked inside the top 100, she would still be entitled to just the normal WC (not sure on the exact number she can have, but I think it is either 5 or 7) since she is listed as a gold exempt player.

This is all assuming the tournament directors vote her for one of the 4 players that recieve WC's for GE.

Hopefully she can get her back fixed once and for all and these injuries become a thing of the past and she gets an opportunity to show what she is actually capable of, on the tennis court.

French Open, then now Wimbledon! This has been the worst so far.

I hope she plays to defend her pre-US Open points. I wonder how low she will drop if she won't be able to defend them?

If she doesn't play before the US OPEN, she will drop below 150
