Now that grand slam season is over, we're onto the Asian hardcourt swing now, starting with the WTA500 South Korean Open @ Seoul.

The tournament runs from Monday 15th - Sunday 21st September 2025.

It's a 28-Player Draw, which means there are BYES for the Top 4 Seeds in this competition. UInfortunately, Emma won't be in the top 4 seeds but depending on any withdrawals over the next few days will determine whether she sneaks into a lower seeded spot or not.

The player list for the event is below :

The draw for the event will be conducted later this week. It'll be updated below as and when it happens.

Emma will play her first singles match on either Monday 15th, or Tuesday 16th September. Time, court and opponent TBC.

As always, the matches will be available to download in the relevant thread at the top of Emma's Empire. I'll try and get them uploaded as soon as possible.

The Korean people are very obsessed with excellence in all fields, including sports, academics, education, music, and the arts etc. I think that is one of the reasons Korean tennis fans showed so much enthusiasm and love towards Iga with supporting signs, even though it was Iga's first time participating in the tournament. It really doesn't matter to them whether it's very one-sided in competition. They just appreciate the superior skills that top athletes display. I am sure their responses will be the same if Sabalenka plays at the Korea Open. There are many Korean Emma fans because she is a former USO champion.

Call it sleep deprivation, but I'm going for a power nap pretty soon because the Asian swing just does not get along with this North American's physical well being. That being said, I will boldly saying Seoul was the worst tournament of 2025 for me so far. Hands down the very worst! (n) I only need to point out 2 things and I'm going for my Sunday afternoon nap.

1. Our dear Emma loses a heartbreaking match to Krejcikova who friggin' saved 3 match points. Losing the second set tiebreak of 12-10. Later losing the 3rd set big time.

2. Ekaterina Alexandrova today was only 2 points away from lifting this Seoul WTA 500 trophy, but she didn't keep her feet on the gas and 2ga once again escaped death. (n)

Forgot just how unsuitable the Asian swing is for a working North American viewer dealing with the EST time zone. Now I remember why I used to take a huge break right after the US Open. I would return to watch tennis at the earliest during the WTA Finals. I really should go back to skipping the Asian swing like in the past for me.

Personally I think EMMA deserved to win the match against Krijekova, she was the better player in the first to sets.
KriJ played like a ball basher with a horrondously huge wild swing, going for lines of course she made lots of winners and errrors.
I certainly would not enjoy EMMA playing like that.
I was not impressed by KriJ 's play EMMA is a better all around player.
I did not like her behavior either. Everytime EMMA had a critical point to serve Krij would delay her.EMMA does not seem to be bothered by it however.
EMMA went away in the third set. I do not know why.
I saw no issues with EMMA's back
GO EMMA GO

It's just a shame the women's tour is just a support act for ATP these days, men will always play the last showcase match in every combined event and despite playing on the same court they get all the advance data and analytics while SAP gives you bread and butter stuff even if you were happy to pay thousands per month for temporary access.

Just watched the final, that was a good match. Alexandrova played very well, came very close. She was sad, but in her speech she saw the positives through the tears.

The emcee is a pain in the ass though, telling the players to smile for the camera. Continuous blabbering.

Much better camera view than the Laver Cup. At least you get some idea of the speed of the ball. It looks like Alexandrova hits the ball harder than Fritz, but i know she doesn't, its just the camera view. Also it makes it look like Seoul was a much faster court than Laver Cup court, but i doubt it, just camera view again makes it seem so.

Having said that, some women appear to hit as hard as the men- i witnessed Rybakina-Emma followed right after by Shelton-Mannarino on the same court and Lena appeared to hit the forehand as fast as the men, though with less topspin.
