Since other Ukrainian girl from the same year Dayana Yastremska has been having her own thread for over a year now, I think Katarina deserves hers too - even more now she's through to the SFs (as well as Yastremska) of European Junior Championships this week in U14 category. :)

Katarina is 14 yo, she was born on May 2, 2000 in Lutsk, NW Ukraine. She's right-handed with a double-handed backhand.

She's had a really brilliant year so far: SFist in G14 Les Petits As (she was seed 11 and lost to seed 4 Claire Liu 2 & 4 in SF); finalist in G14 TIM Essonne (she was seed 2 and lost to top seed Olesya Pervushina in the final - double-bagelled :sobbing: ); SF at G16 International Children's Day Cup (she was seed 3 and lost to top seed Ekaterina Vishnevskaya in QF, 3-6 6-7(5)); R3 at G14 Open des jeunes Stade Francais - BNP Paribas Cup (she was seed 8 and lost to seed 9 Maria Lourdes Carle, 7-5 2-6 3-6 in R3).

She's also played 3 G18 tournaments this year: in April in Bulgaria, G2 Plovdiv Cup, where she was given a MDWC but fell in R1 to Lana Slavica, 2-6 5-7 , & G3 Kenana Cup, where she qualified but fell to fellow qualifier Tanja Stojanovska 4-6 4-5 ret. in R1 as well; and in June in Moldova, she qualified for G5 Head Cup and reached QFs! (lost in QF to fellow qualifier Ylona-Georgiana Ghioroaie, 4-6 7-5 4-6 ).

She's ranked #1447 this week, she got her 1st ranking right after her G5 Head Cup QF appareance and has a CHR of 1411. ;)

And, as I was saying at the beginning, this week she's through to the SFs of European Junior Championships, in U14 category, as seed 12! :yippee: :yeah:

Here is her road to the SF: she had a bye in R1, beat Sofia Nami Samavati 1 & 1 in R2, Simona Borisova 4 & 1 in R3, (5)Anda Karanusic 2-6 6-3 7-5 in R4 :yeah:, and Karolina Tilander (who took out (4)Olga Danilovic 3 & 3 in R4) 2 & 0 in QF. :worship:

Now, SF vs. top seed (and world #366) Olesya Pervushina. :scared: I don't think she can win this one, but hopefully she can make it a fight, play a close set or something. :) Davay! :cheer::cheer:

She fell to Pervushina in the SF, quite expectedly - but this time it was much better, as she took a set from her! :yeah: (I recall that in their previous encounter she got double-bagelled :hysteric:).

2-6 6-2 1-6. Congrats on a great week! :yeah:

She also reached the final in doubles, along with fellow Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska:

Doubles final

Olesya PERVUSHINA/Anastasia POTAPOVA(1) d. Dayana YASTREMSKA/Katarina ZAVATSKA(2), 6-7(5) 6-0 10-7.

with winner Pervushina - good to see that she doesn't look too down after being double-bagelled in a final :awww:

She (with Yastremska & Domukhovskaya) also won Summer Cup held by Tennis Europe at the beginning of July :D :yeah:

Pervushina d. Zavatska 6-3 4-6 6-3

She lost, but she played a very good match, gave Pervushina a really hard time. :yeah: She wasn't bothered at all by Pervushina's bomb serves and power, it really was an even match for the 1st 2 sets. She hit some beautiful dropshots! :hearts: In set 3, she seemed to have pain in her left thigh, physio came out for her twice, and that final set wasn't as close as the 2 previous ones.

But head up, Katya played a great match and fought really hard (she was a break down in set 2), she definitely has some great potential! :yeah:

Katya's back since last week, after a one month and a half break! :yippee:

She's trying G18s again. :D

- last week, she made QFs of G5 ITF Luzern Junior Competition. :) (She beat Michelle Fux 2 & 2 in R1, (11)Flyora Shiyanova 2 & 1 in R2, Eva Marie Voracek 1 & 2 in R3, before falling in QF to the eventual champion, (3)Daniela Vukovic, 6-4 1-6 3-6. :awww:)

- this week, she's in the final of G5 Swiss Tennis Junior Trophy Biel. She took her revenge against (4)Marina Vukovic in R1, as she beat her 4 & 1 :rocker2:; in R2 she beat Simona Waltert 6-3 7-5 :); in QF she beat Rebeka Masarova 7-5 6-3 :); in the SF she beat Nina Boch 3 & 2. :yeah:
