Kafelnikov - Haarhuis through to French Open final
By Araz Gulekjian
Thursday, June 5, 2003

Defending doubles champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Paul Haarhuis advanced to their second straight French Open final on Thursday.

The Russian and the Dutchman, seeded No11, outclassed Australian No10 seeds Paul Hanley and Wayne Arthurs 6-4 6-4.

Kafelnikov and Haarhuis will now meet the American Bryan brothers, Mike and Bob, who dismantled Indian Leander Paes and Czech David Rikl 6-4 6-3.

He said he would retire if he won Davis Cup.
His team won the Davis Cup. He didn't win anything.

He did win Davis Cup as a person who made himself available for every tie for the last few years and who made it clear that playing for a Russian team is an honour...

regardless of that final results, Russians see him as a winner... and that's what count, right?

I watched the doubles match, and Yevgeny was carrying a very negative attitude and putting a lot of pressure on Paul the whole time..... Also, He played the shitty tennis on the big points.... They just simply threw the whole match away from their hands....

I believe its not a very good decision to play doubles with Yevgeny... If he is happy to play, that's fine.... otherwise.... ;)

Dizzia,

I think that Yevgeny needs to dump Paul, he's just too old and Y. was getting frustrated yelling at him "Go Go Go" to get to the net.

Congrats to the exciting Bryan brothers! :bounce: They deserve the men's doubles championship! :D

And good luck to the Bryan's in their upcoming Davis Cup debut! It is long overdue.

Becca, it's time for Kafelnikov to retire. He doesn't play well in singles anymore. And his doubles game is slipping, too.

nice win for the twins........
but is it me, or do they kinda suck...:p
weak double's match IMO,
not that they are bad or anything,
but being double specialists as they are,
their volley is not as good as what i thought
this being only like the 2nd or 3rd time i saw
them play............

also remember once Mike or Bob lost
to Pat Rafter in straight sets in US Open,
there volley is nowhere near Pat.....
hopefully they'll improve, coz the
way John is commentating the match,
he seems to be indicating they probably
wont make the Davis team against.....
