This was posted earlier this week on a British tennis site:

After 12 years on the women's tour, most spent at the top of the British game, Brighton's Julie Pullin announced her retirement after this year's Wimbledon. Concerned tennis fans will be pleased to hear however that gbtennisgirls have ensured her a continuing role in British tennis, passing on her experience and expertise to the next generation of players.

Her career high rankings of 125 and 56 in singles and doubles, have made Julie the backbone of the British European and Federation Cup teams for many years, and earned her and partner Lorna Woodroffe a place in the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Having faced most of the world's elite will no doubt make her contribution to junior tennis invaluable as she takes on her new role as coach of the Brighton based Satellite squad, part of the new gbtennisgirls hub network, which is funded in part by Julie's own sponsor Hepher-Dixon Town Planning. Details of the hub-network, which is the next phase in the development of gbtennisgirls, will be released soon. Interested players and parents in the Sussex area can contact Julie thorough our website.

First Lucie, now Julie. I guess financially it was time for them both to go. It can't have been easy to be on the tour as long as they have without getting regular good pay cheques. I am surprised Julie's not sticking around to try for an Olympic doubles slot as her swansong!

Oh give the girl a break

You could at least show some respect for someone who has struggled for so long and finally decided to retire. Not everyone can be ranked in the top 10, nor should we only be fans of those who are.

Goodbye Julie
