Wake up Jo.
From 40-0 on Zhang's serve to 3-0 down. 2 DF to lose serve, an attempted drop from the back that went about 6 feet above the net and 4 hit beyond the baseline under no pressure.

Singapore a bit of a mirage at the moment.

That backhand DTL to set up break point was divine! :hearts:

Osaka was looking dangerous initially but towards the end of the set there were too many wild forehands.

Topsy-turvy start.

Jo came out crushing the ball and broke Wozniacki to love in about 20 seconds with a sequence of huge returns and passes. The shot for 0-40 was an absolute screamer.

Down a break at 1-2 Wozniacki called upon Piotr after just three games. :spit:

But it seemed to work. Jo lost her serve from 30-0 up and the score was back level at 2-2. Unfazed, Jo promptly broke again and this time consolidated on serve for 4-2*

Woz has now held her next service game - brief testy exchange with Kader being the highlight - and narrows the deficit to 3-4.

Unusual to see Jo struggling on serve so much. She saves three break-points serving for a 5-3 lead - one with a huge drive volley - but Wozniacki breaks her at the 4th attempt.

Jo then plays a perfect volley interception and Woz throws in 2 double-faults as Jo break to 15.

Jo is serving for the first set at 5-4. She needs more 1st serves.

But Jo's in trouble again at 15-40 as a cross-court volley floats high to give Woz an easy pass and a couple of groundstrokes DTL are missed.

But she doesn't want to be broken three times in this set and she finally finds some 1st serve bombs and kills the short balls. Four points won in a row and she has the 1st set in the pocket. :yeah:

Fissette tells her to be happy at the change of ends. :)

Sakkari's level dipped in a bit in her service game, allowing Jo to get another break, to lead 3-2. Good advice from Sakkari's coach, to hang tough and make Jo earn this.

Jo and Sakkari are like polar opposites in terms of on court mentality. Jo is quite clinical, whereas Sakkari is so firery. Unfortunetly, Sakkari just does not have the consistency today, otherwise it oculd be a really interesting match up.
