When Jo meets Timea Babos in round 2 of Beijing she'll want to erase the memory of this Fed Cup loss to her in 2014. Jo had beaten Timea in straights sets in qualifying for the US Open two years before and looked set to repeat the result - and by a very similar scoreline - when she served for the match at 6-5 in the 2nd set. But as with so many matches in a year in which her choking tendencies became chronic she dropped serve and then blew a 5 point to 1 lead in the ensuing tiebreak. She ended up losing a heart-breaker 4-6 in the 3rd.

Highlights of Jo's third round match in Wuhan against Suarez-Navarro. This was a really tight and high quality contest. What stands out is how solid Jo is behind her serve. It's not so much the number of aces and unreturnables she hits as how quick she is to move in and take advantage of short returns - often taking the ball out of the air and clobbering it away for winners. Textbook modern 'power tennis'

Highlights of Jo's Wuhan quarter-final against an on-fire Kvitova. Jo appeared somewhat stunned by the pace and depth of Kvitova's groundstrokes and the severity of her serving but in the light of the subsequent demolition jobs Petra inflicted on Halep and Pome this was a perfectly respectable performance. Indeed, it could have closer if Jo hadn't missed a forehand sitter at 40-15 when serving to level the first set at 4-4. I liked the way that after being outhit from the baseline in the opening set Jo began to change tactics early in the 2nd, hanging in much better in the baseline rallies and forcing errors by driving heavily top-spun cross-court forehands deep into Petra's backhand corner.

Jo vs Stosur highlights. Some powerful exchanges from the baseline in this match! Stosur actually played quite well, hitting some fantastic winners and defending well. Jo was just relentless pounding away and painting the lines. Keep it up Jo! :yeah:

Jo is pounding those groundstrokes! :worship:

Also, that "COME OOOON!" at the end, really encouraging to see her so pumped and motivated. :)
