I thought with so many threads having died off due to retirements (eg. Dittmann, McShea, Sekulovski, Watson, Welford, etc). I thought I'd start one for Jess Schaer. We need more Aussies in the top 500!
I 1st saw her play at Nuri "05 & liked the way she moved the ball around the court & her consistency.
18 y.o Jess has just come off the best week of her career.

Galatina - ITA - CLAY - $25k:
Q1: 1266-Schaer d. 1343-Sonia Iacovacci (ITA) - 6-2,6-2
QR: 1266-Schaer d. 8/536-Marija Mirkovic (AUS) - 7-6(4),6-1
1r: Q/1266-Schaer d. LL/346-Tiffany Dabek (USA) - 6-1,7-5
2r: 7/220-Daria Kustava d. Q/1266-Jessica Schaer - 5-7,6-1,6-0

Tiffany Dabek has a career high ranking of 170 (end of 2005). Daria Kustava has won 3 Singles Challengers & 5 Doubles Challenger events (including a $50k) already this year.
Doing so well in these tough matches has gotta be helping Jess a hugely!
Jess will move up from this weeks ranking of 1286 to around 900!!

Coming Up:
Grado - ITA - CLAY - $25k:
Singles:
Q1: bye
Q2: Schaer vs 5/474-Nadja Roma (SWE)

A win over a player ranked in the 300's, is a great win for a player ranked 1266 in the world. I haven't heard of her but sounds like she has some potential.

Thanks Scott!! I figure she & Jess are at least over the juniors now. Starting to make their way in the seniors now with some success. Let's hope they can keep going & earn a place in the AO training camp in Dec.

Anyone have a pic of her. Would be good to put a face to the name. She's played the Aus ITF's a bit w/o any startling results. Was surprised with her win over Mirkovic - but to beat Dabek is great.

I had no luck finding any pic's of her. I'll post them if I can find them though.
She managed to qualify for an Aussie $25k last year, but drew Gajdosova 1st round (1&1).
I was shocked she got the set off Kustava though. I've heard glowing reports about Kustava. She won't be playing the challengers for long. So great Jess could manage to win that tight 1st set.

Tough match for doubles but should be able to win a match or 2 in singles here!

Wonder why Jess doesnt travel with any other aussie girls? wonder if she has a parent or coach with her or is doing it solo!
