Wow! how disappointing. ESPECIALLY to read that Daddy Dearest is still in charge.

I doubt it has anything to do with the distance though. Australia's not much further than Japan, where she intends to start her new season.

Maybe she doesn't feel comfortable with Australia after changing nationalities. And I can understand that she's feeling tired...but to miss out on a grand slam!

I find it very strange that someone as fiercely competitive as Jelena (someone who's been travelling from tournie to tournie, week after week) is not going to Oz because of the distance.

Well, I guess it's her loss, but I for one am disappointed.

hehehe, Like Australians care!!!

Good riddance Jelena..

Too far?? What a load of bullshit... She really must value grand slams highly, if sititng on her ass for 20 odd hours is too hard for her to do...

Then again, the Aus Open are against Jelena, and righ the draws against her dont they?? LOL..

Maybe this year the focus at Aus Open will be on tennis, not on this primadonna's catty little accusations and disprespectful comments toward other players.

sad to see a great competitor not....competing?

well maybe shes acting in her own best interest(making herself happy) by not playing there because obviously there are issues. no matter what i think jelena always has the upper hand on australia, because seh burned them....thats how i view it. go jelena!

Forget the Aussie Open -- who cares? This is about Jelena's career and even her future life.

It is sickening that her Dad is still running the show so completely. Something clearly happened in the last few days. The coach who was quoted just a few days ago about his plans for helping Jelena is now backpedalling as fast as he can. What a shame.

Something has definitely happened. The coach was quite definitely committed to coaching her a few days ago and now isn't. Damir was around Jelena less and less this season, but now seems to be back in control. This poor girl is quite clearly being manipulated by her father. He also controls the finances, apparantly. I bet that in a few years time Jelena will come forward and we'll hear a horrible story of abuse and fraud. It reminds me of Mirjana Lucic.

Why so quick to knock Jelena Dokic for her decision ??? She is NOT the first nor will she be the last to skip the OZ open... What right do fans have to criticize players who make decisions in their best interest?? Like Lindsay said last week, tennis is an INDIVIDUAL sport. Jelena works for herself, so get over it

It is this sudden reversal that is so troubling; also the decision to spend the entire off-season in Belgrade instead of Florida, where such great facilities, climate, and practice-partners are available.

I fear that Damir is trying to isolate Jelena as much as possible; perhaps the Belgrade thing is a punishment to her for hiring that coach on her own and seemingly striking out for her independence. Or maybe not a punishment explicitly, but definitely a move to isolate her from normal people and ensure he keeps his hold on her (and on her income). A typical move of an abuser is to keep the victim isolated from society as much as possible.

It's frightening and creepy.

Oh boo-hoo-hoo ! I'm sure the Aussie Tennis Federation are crying their little eyes out cos they won't get loadsa negative press and constant shitty news stories bout Jelena this year. Well she's hardly a marquee name lol so I think we can view this as the Dokic family's loss and certainly not Tennis Australia's !

I wish I could smuggle Mary Pierce's Phone Number to Jelena in Belgrade! I'd even pay for the calls.

Dokic coming to Aust doesn't surpoirze me. She is a pathetic. Tennis OZ and her fans gave her a lot- $$ and emotionally and she has repaid us by slamming it in our face. Good riddnace- I hope this is the start of her downfall

The sad thing is The PEa is that she (well maybe Damir) brought it upon themselves.
Tennis Oz gave her so much $$ via trips, sponsors and training. They also gave her wildcards and many many other opportnities.
The OZ public gave her every bit of support they could.....and her response- change nationalities. Hmm I wonder why the OZ crowds turned against her????
