PARIS (AP) — Yugoslav teen Jelena Dokic withdrew Sunday from the finals of the dlrs 585,000 Gaz de France tournament due to a thigh injury, giving Venus Williams the victory, a tournament spokeswoman said.
The 18-year-old Dokic, who defeated American Monica Seles on Saturday to reach the final, pulled out due to a thigh injury, said a tournament spokeswoman.

"Dokic has withdrawn due to an important injury to her thigh," tournament spokeswoman Anne Laboulais told the Associated Press by telephone. "Williams wins by forfeit."

Both Dokic and top-seeded Williams, No. 2 in the world WTA rankings, were in their first trips to the tournament. Williams' sister Serena won in 1999.

A press conference was scheduled for later Sunday, Laboulais said.
