Janice Tjen was born on May 6th, 2002 in Jakarta Indonesia. She graduated from Pepperdine University in 2024, with a degree in sociology. She won the bronze medal in doubles with Aldila Sutjiadi at the 2022 Asian Games. In 2025, she managed to enter the MD of US Open and even went to R2. She followed that with a final appearance at her maiden WTA tournament, the Sao Paulo Open. Now she's hoping to emulate the glory days of her compatriots Yayuk Basuki and Angie Widjaja, by aiming to break the top 50. This thread is here to support her.

Yeah, nice to see her qualify for the main draw at the big tournaments. Let's hope she can live up to the expectations that will surely come with all the success she's had lately.

I feel like maybe Janice should focus on the WTA 125 and 250 first to boost her ranking. And she must work hard on her backhand and mental toughness. Otherwise it'll be difficult for her to break the top 50. Serve and forehand alone won't help her. I know she beat Eala recently, but Eala has more weapon than Janice at this moment. I mean you don't win against the likes of Ostapenko, Keys and Swiatek if you're not special. I don't see Janice beat those players or the top 20 anytime soon. But the good thing is she's still young so hopefully she'll get better.

@YayukBazooka I agree with you. She really needs to improve her backhand to add more variety to her game. If she wants to compete with the best, it will be really difficult to rely only on her forehand and serve.
It's nice to see she's able to qualify at the biggest tournaments and at the moment, she's got nothing to lose, only points, money and experience to win/gain. But 2026 will really show her potential to play full time on the WTA tour, deal with the pressure of defending points and play on the bigger stages of tournaments...
