Are there any junior players who look like they may develop all-court games like Jana had?
Justine, maybe- but definitely not Venus, Petrova or Lindsay- all baseline bashers. Jana Novotna had a terrific ground game, and yes, the forehand did break down because of bad technique, just like her serve, but she used the whole court regularly in all her matches, regardless of surface. Should could stay back and win if she had to- something Navratilova was rarely capable of doing. In fact, in Novotna's matches with Graf, she usually did not serve and volley, but wait for a short ball to make an approach in any given point- mark of a good all court game.DA FOREHAND said:Jana Novotna had an all court game? She was pretty weak from the baseline, especially on the forehand side.
There are plenty of all-courters out there now.
All have fine groundstrokes and Volleys.
And her head to head with Steffi was ?alfajeffster said:In fact, in Novotna's matches with Graf, she usually did not serve and volley, but wait for a short ball to make an approach in any given point- mark of a good all court game.
I'd like to see the net-rushing stats comparison between Graf-Novotna...DA FOREHAND said:justine doesn't approach the net as often as Venus. N.E. WAY.. All of the players I mentioned, add Chanda, are capable, and do employ an all court game. Too bad you didn't see Venus play Fed Cup this year, very impressive.
Novotna rarely ventured to the net against Steffi, because Steffi often times beat her to it. (93Wimby/98(?)Pilot Pen)

Venus comes to the net the same way Steffi did- only during early round matches or matches that really don't count, or against far lesser opponents- never when it could make a tough big-time match an easier win.
