Nice job Ajla!! :D

Rather poor display by Garbine in the last set, but Ajla did what she had to do.

Poor Garbine. After such a great tournament win in Chicago too.

It was an ungodly sight to watch Garbine mentally disappear after she broke back and had double game point. Could not find the court after that.

Tomljanovic as always glad to take the wins players serve her on a silver platter

Not a good showing for the Chicago SFists in IW (except Jabeur). Muguruza was so error-prone today. A bit puzzling how she brought Tomljanovic back after comfortably winning the second.

Ons was leading 6-1, 3-2 (up a break) in Chicago. if she wasn't a notorious choker in the finals, she could have won 6-1, 6-2. but she lost an easy match!
If, if, if. If Garbine had grown wings she could have flown to the net and returned all dropshots.

The better player won. Get over it. 🙄

What a terrible loss for Muguruza. All Tomljanovic had to do in the 3rd set was to force her opponent to hit a couple of shots in a row. Muguruza would just hit herself out usually, long, wide or into the net (one volley landed into the bottom of the net I think). It is only 4th top 10 win for Ajla in her career (and 22 losses apparently).

This result just proves that WTA or tennis in general can be unpredictable. One week you win a Premier and in another you lose to a journeywoman and eternal bridesmaid Tomljanovic. But to be honest that Chicago win was full of luck for reasons we know.

Tomljanovic was a generic boring basher and is becoming a generic boring pusher, but it's working better for her, especially on such a slow surface.

Garbiñe was as horrific as in everything she's played after Charleston, and that weird Chicago title shoudn't disguise how bad her tennis is at the moment. Her game looks pretty harmless and bland, but still spraying errors with her ugly club level FH, and you can see it coming a mile off that she's the one who's going to collapse under the pressure in a close match, regardless of her opponent's ranking/quality.

Garbine has had better days....for sure. Strange match really, there for the taking for both. Tomljanovic had 14 winners and 32 UE an won? o_O Squirrelly match for sure. Muguruza got the gift title last week ....so she's in YEC. She has had solid year overall, so deserves the spot....100% But this match will surely leave a bad taste in her mouth going forward.
