I mean business, she´s of course a big attraction in any tournament she plays but since her comeback, she´s messing up all finals she plays, either by short little competitive matches, big dramas or retirement. It woud seem it´s still better to have her than not in a final, but I´m sure most organizers and people who paid to see her in the final are not happy with her not even finishing a set, or making big dramas not to mention, her opponents are left without the feat of winning an important final how they should.
Is it time for her to let younger fitter and healthier players take over the popularity? Andreescu vs Osaka or vs Bousková would have been a great final in Canada

But Osaka also damages the WTA and doesn't do herself any favors when she says it's ok to lose because it was against Serena. :help:

She sure doesn't deserve moving back to the #1 ranking with that attitude.

well...i'm sure the US Open 2018 final attracted a lot of publicity...it got way more attention than if Osaka would have just "won normally"...the news were all over it though they were on the wrong side...i'm sure they any publicity they get from Serena is good publicity...

Btw, Bouzkova could be a one tournament wonder...

I agree on that, but I think that´s not just about Osaka, I think most players in the WTA have too much respect/fear for unfit 37 y.o. Serena

No, it is time that younger, fitter etc players to actually beat her before these finals. But it doesn't seem to happen, so clearly she shouldn't let anyone take anything from her. They should earn it.

What are we going to do about Medvedev? He just lost two in a row which is surely damaging to the ATP right?

Yea but Nadal, Djokovic, Federer are absolutely competitive in finals, even Bo5!, just look at the last Wimbledon final, almost 38 Federer with a thrilling 5 set TB that only lost a couple of lapses on MP, Serena doesn´t choke a point, she will choke a whole match, at best

So the women’s French Open finals this year was a good one?

Let's be honest, Serena is entitled to coast on past glories for a while, and she can perhaps be forgiven for buying into her own superwoman mythology. It's a bit of an indictment of the womens' tour that she can compete at a high level clearly out of shape and moving like a wounded hippo, but her amazing physique that still delivers rifle serves still takes her deep into the draw.

It's a fact of life that ageing stars fade out rather than quit while they're ahead, but who can begrudge her for that? We should be grateful that she has the time to play tennis what with having babies and socialising with Brit royalty.

every big final is the same these days :Serena loses easily ,she cries ,her opponents have to comfort her and tell her how great she is ,the crowd comforts her and tells her how great she is ,etc wash rinse repeat .

let's just say i can't wait for this cycle to be over;)
