And if so then why are these players getting beat by Venus and Serena? Ok actually we all know the answer to my question. Of course the above players strong point is their power, then why do all the above have a losing record against the two Williams sisters? What actually are their weaknesses when playing Venus and Serena? Or is it that Venus and Serena are just MORE than power. Imho I never thought they were ALL power. I saw their game like I did/do Seles's. And we all know she's sure has been around awhile. Actually imho they just made alot of errors and didn't come to net. They always had foot speed and good serves. Well anyway what is it NOW that is really benefitting the Williams sisters when they play the above players. ? Please note I forgot about Jen Cap. She's power too and losses alot to the Williams sisters. Also when the sisters first came on the scene they hit the ball hard and were powerful, but that does not a tourney winner make. Imho they still hit it hard but are getting better with constructing points and net game. maybe that is the key to beating the above players the majority of the time? Cause imho none of the above players really constructs points that well. Monica Seles may be the only one who does, but imho the rest just wack the ball hard.

I guess you've never seen Kim play.

Out of the 4 you mentioned she hits the balles the least hard, still hard but not as hard as the other three. IMO she and Monica are the best thinkers on court out of that group.

BTW I think all 4 have qualities, they don't just hit the ball hard, if that was the case they wouldn't be top 10 players.

Monica has the best angles IMO, she really uses the court well and can totally outplay most of the other players.
Jennifer has great belief in herself, if she's fully confident she's almost impossible to beat.
Elena has great court coverage and speed. She brings almost everything back and often does something good with it.
Kim has a good serve and solid groundstrokes, especially since she cut down on the errors. Plus she reads the game very well.

Just power wont get a player to the top 10, harnessing their power is neccessary too.

The William's cover the court very well and hit well on the run. And they're intimidating, as it gives a player less options to hit a winner. So pyschologically they have an edge.

Maybe...?

Danw Marie - It's an old point, but its still well made. Venus and Serena both have more well rounded tennis games than Lindsay or Jenn or Monica or Jelena or Amelie. However, Josh is correct when he makes objection where Kim is concerned. Venus and Serena both have three edges over Kim.

Slightly more footspeed.
A good bit more power.
Vastly better serves.

Now Kim is unequivocally a power player, but she gives up a little in that departement to Lindsay, Venus, Serena, Amelie, Monica. Not much, but some.

Well, that's what I think.

However DM, you know after four years of this that those who think the Williamses are all power simply aren't watching them. Or are literally unable to see the subtleties of thier play.

Dawn, Seles is just power. Dementieva, Clijsters and Capriati are a fine combination of power and speed. As a combination, the William's sisters have the best combination of power and speed. I don't think anyone would dispute that.

P.S. - Dawn, have you stopped talking about Anna Kournikova's high heels yet?

Smooches to u cat in the hat

Josh if Kim is the better thinker than Venus and Serena (and still whacks the ball hard) then why hasn't she beat Venus and Serena? I disagree I truley believe that Serena along with Venus thinks more on the court than Kim. (why else has she lost to them) At least as of this time. Who knows what 2002 will bring? I also disagree with u about Kim , she may hit the ball the least hard but not by much. Kim can hang with the big babes, heck she is a big babe. All I am saying is that imho, Venus and Serena are doing some things right. ANd power is not the only thing that they are doing to beat players because they have a winning record over the above mentioned players. If all of them hit with pace then it just can't be possible that Venus and Serena hit with only power. Imho their serve/footwork/contructing points and net game outclasses the above players. FOR NOW. 2002 is a whole new ballgame

Dawnie sweetie, I was comparing Kim to the other three you named, Seles, Dementieva and Capriati. Out of that group I believe Kim is the best thinker, along with maybe Monica.

I agree that Serena and Venus are still a level above all others, not just because they are very powerful but also because they are great tacticians.

But they better watch out for Kim and Justine in 2002!
