Steffi has no legitimate rival during her time so it has been easy for her.

Never mind back to back. It might be worth noting that the last 7 RG's have been won by 7 different players. And there are still serious contenders out there who haven't done it.

That's not true. Arantxa? Monica? Mary Jo?

1994 French Open

Steffi is defeated in the Semis by Mary Pierce  Mary went on to lose in the finals to Arantxa.

1995 French Open

Mary Pierce lost to Iva  in the Rd. of 16. If either had met Steffi in the finals (they were in the other half of the draw) who knows what may have happened?

That was supposed to be "And". Lindsay is not a serious contender for RG. Amelie is.
Lindsay was a serious contender in 1998 and 1999, when she lost to the eventual champion in the semis and quarters respectively.

I don't think Lindsay is a serious contender for any Slam now. She's sort of in the position where Monica was for so long. She'll get to the Quarters or so and then lose.

Lindsay could still challenge on one of the faster surfaces, if things go her way. But not Roland Garros. Even in 98/99 she was a fringe contender there.

Sorry, can't see her challenging for Wimbledon or US Open.

She's got toe/fitness issues...
