After that match, I seem to remember Kostyuk saying something like there was nothing special about the way Iga played. Maybe someone recalls the details?

Iga in 2, but I hope at least one of them to be really close.

Kostyuk is on the rise this year. She is currently 26th in the live rankings and 8th in the live race. Iga was quite sloppy in one set she played against Wozniacki today and I could see this going the way of the Dubai SF.

I hope Iga is ready.

Marta played Iga very close at RG three years ago and has only gotten better since. I'm picking her for the upset.

She is playing better than she was back then, but she hasn't only gotten better. Her game and results have been all over the place, very up and down, over the last two years.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but one question mark for me is the way Iga was bothered by Kalinskaya and today in 1st set vs Woz, if Marta has great day she can make Iga rush and lose patience with her defense. I think Iga will win in tight 2 sets though.

 

It's funny how fast Kostyuk "fans" forgot about her awful second set game in today's QF.

 

We didn't forget about what happened in the 2nd set but we regard it positively that she came through despite her 2nd set issues. Additionally Marta's struggles in the 2nd set should have absolutely no bearing on her match against Iga. The circumstances and mindset for this one will be completely different. Against Iga, Marta is not under anything like the pressure she had on her the last couple of matches. She can hit freely.

 

Marta is going to have to find her serve otherwise Iga will win easily, but I would love Marta to win it all.

 

Yeah, it has potential to be like Sabalenka - Navarro match or Iga - Kalinskaya one in Dubai. Especially if Iga has a bad day again. Tough to predict this one, Marta is on the rise and her peak is high.

I can imagine Marta beating Iga. One year ago it would be a no-brainer but since that Iga has been beaten by two players younger than her and it's true that Marta's on the rise.

 

Iga would have to play pretty badly to lose to Kostyuk. Considering how she lost to Kalinskaya, I suppose that's possible. If she plays well, this is an easy straight sets win though.

Iga 6-3 7-5. Something like that. I expect Marta with no pressure on her this match to give a good account of herself. But I'd still expect Iga to come through in straight sets. Nice that Marta gets to play a fun challenging match with no pressure on her after those two must win matches against Russian opponents both of which she thankfully came through.

 

I think Marta is potentially dangerous, but I have a feeling it will be another straight sets win for Iga. Marta is likely to overheat eventually as we know she can. A good competitive first set followed by one not competitive. 7-5, 6-2.

 

As much as Marta is clearly becoming a better player, she is most likely not at that level yet, I'd say Iga in two sets but no bakery products, something like 6-3 6-4.

 

Marta wasn’t that impressive today and she’s not a wall like Woz. I guess Iga in two. If she plays well ofc we can have an upset but it’s unlikely. Also, Marta will probably be nervous. It’s her first WTA 1000 SF.

Iga probably can only lose this if she is an error machine but there is a chance for sure as she has been under the radar mediocre for segments of this tourney that she could lose here

A lot of things has changed since 2021 (not 2022). Marta has to play incredible (and Iga, way below her standards) in order to win against Świątek. If Marta doesn't serve well, she will struggle during return games big time. Her biggest assets are her defense and a bit of variety, the biggest disadvantages - serve and mentality. It's SF, and I cannot see how Iga is losing it against Marta Kostiuk.

 

Do you remember how Kostyuk choked against a terrible Gauff at the AO who was spraying UE left and right (she was leading 5-1 in the first set) ? It was one of the worst matches I have even seen.

Unless 1GA forget how to play tennis, no way Kostyuk has the mental fortitude to beat the #1

 

Will Marta play without any expectations? I don't think so. She has quite a bit tour experience. While she didn't have high consistency in the past, she is perfectly aware it's Indian Wells semifinal - a lot of points, big money and fame are at stake. Some players can easily forget about it, some have problems. Most importantly Iga has that unique ability to crush opponent's spirit. Pressure on Marta's serve will be huge and that's where mental aspect comes to play. During rallies all those short balls Marta played today, Iga will eat for breakfast.

I think it will be another 6-4, 6-0 again. But Iga can also go off the boil even when she is ahead , anyone remember Dubai SF in the first set when Iga was 4-2 up?
