Swiatek's going to be a trainwreck on clay next season if she comes into it hoping it'll all turn around like magic and then learns the hard way the problems are more fundamental. The surface differences don't help but someone with a game as big as she has shouldn't be routined in straights over and over again.
Seems that her game really turned to "hit or miss" these days.

Ostapenko is always dangerous and capable of beating virtually anyone when she is on and that was what happened here. No surprise really. Too bad she is so streaky

Iga also tend to panic and forget how to play when she comes up against a peaking hard hitter on hard court but she is still young and will learn and become better at dealing with that as she gets older. She looked slow in this match though, probably not feeling well

How many slams wonders are Andreescu, Fernandez and Bouchard ?
Andreescu is another one slam wonder beside Swiatek and Ostapenko for now. Fernandez and Bouchard are slamless for now. What’s your point?

Virtually anyone ?

You think Ostapenko would beat a Prime Serena, Henin, Sharapova, Clijsters ? Let's be serious.

Washed-up Sharapova beat Ostapenko at Rome 2°18 when the latvian was playing her best and destroyed her at the USO a few months later. Imagine what Prime Sharapova would do to her. Prime Serena destroy players like Ostapenko for breakfest.

Swiatek did nothing to disrupt Ostapenko game. She feed her with loopy balls, served weak (50% first serve), didn't use the slice or moonball.
Vesnina, Christian, Tauson beat Ostapenko on HC this year. So, a GS champion and talented player like Iga should find solutions instead of being straight setted.

Ostapenko was nowhere near her best in Rome. And if you think that peak Swiatek is better than peak Ostapenko lol then ok

Peak Swiatek against Peak Halep at the FO 2020 : 6-1, 6-2. Didn't have to save a BP

Peak Ostapenko against Peak Halep at the FO 2017 : 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Did have to save a BP to avoid to be 0-4 down in the second set.

Swiatek still made the QF at the FO after her title, while Ostapenko only past the 1R ONE time before and after the FO 2017

Ostapenko was outpowering Sharapova in this Rome match , with plenty chances to have a big lead, but it was still not enough because Ostapenko game is still so limited and Sharapova know how to fight even with her declined game. So it's not a science to say Ostapenko wouldn't stand a chance against a Prime Sharapova or any another ATG.

Do you realise it was two different matches?

lmao so is that how you compare who's peak is better? judging on one tournament and playing one opponent?

when Jelena is not brainless (which does not happen often but sometimes does) not many players have a chance. she will simply overpower 95% of players on tour.

Yes. And I saw Swiatek demolishing Halep with clinical offensive game, a pure demonstration. And Halep was playing not bad at all, saving numerous BP. While Ostapenko was hit and miss against a Halep who hit a light ball. If Halep convert her 4-0 BP, it would have been game over.

The problem is Jelena is brainless 95% of the time.

Yeah, that was quite comical. Even if not as much as Serena being in her prime in 2005, according to the same poster.

Well, if Ostapenko would lose to a bunch of players that have a minimum of 4 majors each, if those players were playing like they were able to at their respective peaks, I'd still count that as "virtually anyone"... don't see why one would be so offended by the very idea that she is capable of outblasting most everyone.

There's even a couple of active players that I would admit to having more chance to win than lose if both are at their best. Hardcourt Sabalenka, Barty on a slice-friendly fast court that rewards a big serve...
