I can't tell you how impressed I have been with Leylah. Mentally very strong and technically sound, able to fix things on the fly. Against Pavs, who is a powerful returner....Leylah lost set 1 because Pavs feasted on the Fernanadez 2nd serve, Leylah only winning 29% of these. while serving at only around 50% on 1st serves. So in sets 2 and 3.... Leylah both improved her 1st serve % to over. 60% and won 50% of her 2nd serves. Now that is thinking on the fly. Leylah knew what the problem was and fixed it....maybe taking a bit off to get more 1st serves in and mentally clamping down on 2nd serves. This is the sign of a champion.

Her confidence is sky high right now, and she is a human buzz saw on the court physically, running everything down. Her aggression in both coming forward and hitting winners from the back court has been the most suprising thing for me....she is going to be a tough out here. I see her making the final and maybe winning the tourney, I have no problem saying that.

I would love to see a Leylah/Swiatek QF......as Iga looks like pure class here, that would be a great match.....and as long as I am dreaming a Bianca/Leylah final would be awesome. A flyer here to win IW besides on of these three? Aniisimova ....whose power hitting as looked pretty awesome as well. But that's the problem with these power hitters....it's feast or famine, the all round game of someone like Leylah is a much better bet. Having said all this....Iga looks like the best bet to win the tourney from here. Cheers.

At this point, it’d be a tossup if Leylah or Emma got more crowd support at Wimbledon.
Hahaha...

Emma shall of course be the darling of SW19 the next time she plays there.

We Brits do love a fighter though, so I expect Leylah to have lots of support.

However, should they meet, support would only be one way...

It’s unfortunate Pavs got this draw. I just don’t see top 10 happening 😪
I think her next really good chance to make it will be at AO next year as she does not have points to defend afaik.

Bad loss for Pavs. I thought she has the control after 2-0 2nd set, but obviosly she got nervous knowing she could be in the top 10 for the 1st time...
Couldn't watch. My thoughts are that it would be better if she could figure out a way to start better and win that first set and not have to work two and a half hours to beat such opponents. But a win is a win, so here's hoping she goes all the way.
The new Andreescu.

2020 quarterfinal 😬
Damn, I forgot about those covid-points for 'the best of two editions'. This is stupid as AO was held this yesr.

What keeps the fascinated eye on L is, her weaknesses are discrete (not "discreet") addressable issues, that if she identifies and works on them . . . those improvements combined with that warrior heart will make for a formidable competitor. Will be fun to see how this goes.

Maybe, was he calling the match with Clair some irish women on what must have been an international feed?
Didn't sound like an ex-player, hard to say what he sounded like other than an idiot
Definitely not an ex-player. Just one of the many scrapings from the bottom of the generic broadcasting barrel that Prime insist on inflicting on tennis viewers. No specialist achievements required. Just the ability to Google ànd insult the viewers by describing to them what they have seen combined with a love of the sound of your own voice.
One such idiot was commentating on the Ostapenko v Putinseva match. At the point when she broke a shoe lace again, he said" that's not something you see everyday." It's only happened every match she has played this tournament.

Honestly feel she has no issues with Shelby, it'll be Swiatek who can give her trouble and I don't know if she will get past Penko

The people’s US Open champion.
That is the right word to call her… Emma is Us Open champion (no one can take it away from her) but Leylah won the fans. 🥰 I have no interest watching Emma unless she plays Leylah or the 2019 US open champion.

Pavs was playing some pretty good stuff but you always felt like she must win it in two, otherwise Fernandez would run her ragged in the third.

Fernandez’s no-nonsense game-on face is a scary thing.
