Information from Tomek Wiktorowski:
Tomorrow morning we're doing diagnostic imaging, and only then will we know how serious the injury is.

That's media panic. Ignore this.

Only true information is the information given by Iga or the team, personally. Talking heads in the studio know exactly as much as we do - nothing.

I'll form an opinion after I see it, not before
Does anyone know what shoes she was wearing? I thought I heard commentators in previous match say she was wearing ON but can’t be sure.
I already thought the same when I saw the injury happen. I strongly suspect she has a muscle tear, and it's probably not a minor one.

No, she was wearing Asics. The On shoes won't be ready until grass season/Wimbledon.

I saw Asics.

Muscle tear, especially not a minor one HURTS. Like, seriously hurts. You don't play four more games with a serious muscle tear. Still, if it's a strain, that's usually a few weeks of recovery.

I hope it is just a strain due to heavy conditions and not a tear.

Unless they are careful players try to always repeat the same movement. So Iga may have been putting more effort into sliding to try to get the same length of slide as she normally gets. Players can have similar problems with shoulders and back when serving in heavy/cold conditions because the player tries to get their usual speed and over-stresses.

The worrying thing is that no-one in the box seemed surprised when Iga retired, as if they expected it. Did something happen in the Vekic match that she was carrying? She did not seem happy in that match and some of her running to the Vekic drop shots wasn't her usual smooth running, as if she was not pushing off as usual.

And is that why they had a doctor in her box?

The doctor was in her box last year at this tournament, too.

If it had been mild / minor, she'd have kept playing...
Not necessarily. She could have stopped as a precaution because RG is coming. That is one thing I don't like about the emphasis on slams these days. Players prioritise them so much they are always pulling out from events just before slams. Iga has won Rome twice, but a third RG is seen as a lot more significant than 3 Rome titles.
