Double standards much? Where were you when this happened?

Girl bye indeed to you
Point to the part of my comment where I said Mirra was justified for this :beat:

Iga’s quote was dumb because it insinuated that all players abuse balls and that it isn’t anything to get worked up over. It ignores that striking balls out of anger puts both spectators and volunteers at risk of injury

Yes and Mirra was issued with a warning immediately. I don't think Iga got one unless I'm mistaken. The crowd were booing loudly so maybe I missed it though.

Lol I can’t believe how overblown this whole thing is. What behavior? People obviously haven’t watched tennis back in its glory days. Smashing the ball to a ground? She needs to stop explaining every single detail media will write about, let’s be clear here Iga is not the material you make a villain from.
100%. This is just not going to accomplish anything. Especially when clearly she indicates that she does not allow anyone external to have a say when it comes to her team. She's entitled to that, even if I and more fans disagree about her team's decisions and composition. People just need a villain. Before it was Saba, then it was briefly Coco, now it's Iga. I'm more than sure that whoever else does something questionable, even Mirra after her (deserved) honeymoon period is over, they're going to be WTA Next Top Villain.

I think the expectations on her are great because of her ranking and the people who projected a personality onto her that she never claimed to have. It's like with Paolini now giving icy handshakes, I don't think she ever said she was the sweetest person but because she was happy on court last year, she got that label.
I think it’s a whole different conversation but pretty much! Collins actually made a good point when she said ironically that fans really do believe they know their favourite tennis players. And then the same fans end up being disappointed when a player doesn’t display behaviour they imagine in their heads.

She cares what people think about her too much. Aryna was simulating peeing on the AO RU trophy and then just goes about her day making TikTok’s.

Not living her life in the Notes app writing statements longer than Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
That's what I've been saying, she's taking it all too serioiusly. Crying every day for 3 weeks? Come on. Grow up girl.

:spitrofl::spitrofl::spitrofl::spitrofl:

This girl is TOO funny, keep it coming girl we wanna know more! Miss Naomi #2.

I thought I was going to see the word "Satire" in the headline.

I can't see the statement I assume without logging in to Instagram.

Is the press statement easily available? I searched Iga on Google but can't find anything about this press statement.
It's displayed as pictures, you need to scroll to the right to see other images
Please check the second page of the thread too, the statement is pasted there.

As for Iga, it's not the first time she's doing something like this. It's very her and I think that's brave, to some degree, and makes me like her, for the sincerity.
I'm just not really sure if that's good for her mental health. What the hell is Daria doing there? Iga is clearly exposed to negative comments and cares about them too much. She shows her vulnerability, but many people will use it to attack her even more and that's not good for her head.
Think they should try to build some confidence in her, if she's a public person, she has to have a noticeable level of indifference to the Internet and comments on social media. But yeah, I get it, she's sensitive and unfortunately, such people have it tougher in our world.

Iga, put your head up and move on, try to build some mental distance to other people who are judging you and FFS work on strategy and variety tennis-wise. Thank you :D

I see a lot of good points here and also am not exactly a fan of the whole statement but a few bits are very true. The comments she gets are very nasty and a lot of them are just scary, it’s like people completely lose their sh*t and any boundaries. And the same people would then tell her to chill and not take it all so personally.

^ Thus the advice to "never meet your heroes (or heroines)"...

The great majority of how people view their idols and icons is illusionary, existing nowhere but within their own idealistic imaginations.
