Piotr told today they are going directly from Tokyo to Montreal so they are obviously planning to play there ;)
It would be a surprise if they didnt. It is one of biggest tournaments + Iga the best chance of winning something will be probably there and at Indian Wells because of conditions.

The calendar for the rest of the year is released.
Looks Iga' schedule will looks like this: Montreal, Cincinnati, US Open (confirmed) and then either Ostrava or Chicago (cannot play both), Indian Wells and Moscow (if she loses early in IW).

5 or 6 more to come + YEC if she manages to qualify

Good schedule. I hope she plays in Ostrava so i can go there to watch her live if they allow fans.

Should definitely choose Chicago over Ostrava.

It's pointless to go back and forth US - Europe - US better just to stay in North America.

There's going to be 16 days between the USO women's final and Chicago opener. Do you think Iga would stay in the USA for 2-3 weeks worklessly? Costly & unattractive, given all current pandemic limitations. I think that the idea to go back to Warsaw, then to Ostrava and then back to the USA isn't that bad.

Both these scenarios are unattractive. This whole IW placement in October is weird to say the least. Hopefully in 2022 they’ll play it in its normal slot in March.

I get the impression they have returned to Poland (with other Polish athletes), if that is the case it makes me think she may possibly withdraw from Montreal (like Barty) and delay the US trip to nearer Cinci.
Though she may still go to Montreal from Poland of course.
Happy to be corrected though if anyone has info of them going to Canada/US already.

It would be stupid imho

Montreal will have weaker field and courts are very clay specialist friendly there. Cincy will be packed, courts are fast there and with bad draw she bombs out in her first match.

Iga OUT from Montreal, weird decision. I can't believe she's so tired after 4 matches including two mix in Tokyo. In October, FO points will dropp and I think she will be OUT from Top 20, it's sad. So her schedule are probably Cincinnati, US Open, Indian Wells and maybe WTA Finals.

Her official statement is
"I am sorry to announce that I will not play in Montreal this year. The first part of the season was so intense for me that I need a few days off. I have to prepare for the next few months of playing. I am already looking forward to returning to play in Canada next year."

Understandably she seems to be focused on relaxing and recovering at the moment.

After entering the mixed doubles at Olympics I told you Montreal withdrawal was on the cards.

Unfortunately I was right again.

This is her first full year pro, she should take a break.
Do we want to see her breaking down on court again? The girl is obviously so stressed, and I am sure she cares about her career more than us.

Do you really believe that playing those two matches on 28&29 July was decisive for skipping a tournament that starts eleven days later?
I think none of us will know the reason unless you are a part of Iga’s team.

I just had a hunch she’d withdraw… no reason to argue about it methinks.

That's good that she takes break when she feels that she needs it, she's just starting her career in an horrible condition(Covid) .
She already confirmed after her slam with 2 others titles and the 2nd week in the 3 slams, she is 4th in WTA race, that's already a very good year, 1 other good run and it will be an excellent year.
