right after the open, couldn't she come back just in time for the Year End Championship? Also, I know she's been talking about retirement, but if she comes back and does really well, like the level she's at now, or doing even better with the foot fixed, I wonder if she would stick around quite a bit longer. I really think if it wasn't for the foot, we wouldn't be hearing anything about retirement. Actually, I think Kim wouldn't be #1 - she wouldn't have won LA.

It is possible, but not likely. The recovery for the surgery is 8-12 weeks. She would have to have the surgery the day after she is out of the Open and hope for less than 8 weeks to get back on the court, since the championships are at the beginning of November, 8 weeks after the USO!!!

I hope venus doesnt play until aussie land too. That would give her plenty of recup time.

Although the selfish fan in me wants to see her play and blitz the indoor season, it would be every nice if she and Serena both waited until Australia because they would receive protected rankings in Australia. Venus said she was playing the fall season though. She shouldn't be out with injury too much longer. From what I heard her stomach was fine, but her conditioning wasn't there from being out so long, and she would have risked further injury if she didn't strengthen herself before she came back.
