the top 12 player are

6 from the USA
6 from Europe

it would be great to have a tie like ryder cupbetween Europe and the USA

6 single matches and 3 doubles

V. Williams (usa#1) vs. Clijsters (EU #1)
Capriati (usa #2) vs. Hingis (EU #2)
Davenport (usa #3) vs. Henin (EU #3)
Seles (usa #4) vs. Dokic (EU #4)
S.Williams (usa #5) vs. Mauresmo (EU #5)
Shaughnessy (usa #6) vs. Testud (EU #6)

and then 3 doubles

i think this would be great!

Wonder how many Brits might make the team??? (cough)

I enjoy the Ryder Cup, but its not a competition blessed with sweetness and light, with downright hatred rising to the surface on numerous occassions, it brings out the worst in people.

This would be too tough for the Europeans to decide who, or how many from what country get to play. And it would be next to impossible to get the best 12 to play. And w/o the best 12, you always have room for arguements over who's better and who only won because so-and-so didn't play.

The closest we have to a Ryder Cup in tennis, is probably the Maureen Connolly trophy, which is an annual (although it was cancelled last year as a result of the W.T.C disaster) U-19 match between Great Britain and USA.
Indeed on a related note, does anyone know why the Fed cup shouldn't be changed to run on an identical format to the much more successful Davis Cup?
