Really I was thinking about this in relation to Babsi.
If she had played either Auckland or Gold Coast, her year would have been so much better in regards to seedings and draws but then she could have lost early and not gained any points (not a very high possibility).
Another player who it messed up was Lina, who couldn't play Sydney qualies because of this, and went into the Australian Open with only 1 match (which may or may not have caused the injury).
So really the only players who really benefit from this tournament is the elite players who don't have to worry too much about seedings in tournaments and gives them some match practice.
But then I guess the money is a very high incentive to play.
