How to play Three Hands

So, what's this game about?

This game is very different from your typical tipping games in Tennis where you are tipping the winner a match, or try to figure out who might upset an opponent to maximize profits. It's a bit similar to fill in the draw but it also gives you an opportunity on learning how to minimize risks by requiring separation of picks.

What do you need to know when playing this game?

1. You are to post three separate hands with number of players based on the main draw before the tournament begins.

Code:
Choose

[U]6 players[/U] in the order of (1-2-3) per hand for a 32-player main draw or round robin
[U]9 players[/U] in the order of (2-3-4) per hand for a 64-player main draw
[U]12 players[/U] in the order of (3-4-5) per hand for a 128-player main draw

Hands Hand 1 Hand 2 Hand 3

 32 Draw/RR = 1 player , 2 players, 3 players
 64 Draw = 2 players, 3 players, 4 players
128 Draw = 3 players, 4 players, 5 players
2. The players must be arranged in three different hands with the designated number of players per hand based on the draw.

Code:
...but

If you choose a qualifier before qualifying is finished, identify the draw spot
- Q1 = first Q in main draw

If a LL is to be determined before the main draw begins, they may be chosen.
- If it is not determined yet the main draw outlines more Qs for LLs, treat it as Q.

If you choose a doubles team you must list both players on the team cause they may be in singles.
- Errani for singles, Errani/Vinci for doubles
3. You may change your picks as many times as you want before main draw match begins.

Code:
Alternates may be designated or listed in order in case players withdraw.
4. ...and one of the most important thing about Three Hand is to have valid hands.

Code:
Valid Hands

Points earned in [U]Hand 3 must be greater than the combination of Hand 1 & 2[/U]
Points earned in [U]Hand 2 must be greater than the Hand 1[/U]
Points earned in [U]Hand 1 is always valid[/U]

A hand will only award points if it's consider valid, meaning the risks were considered.

[U]Valid Hands[/U] earns bonus = 3*(Hand 1) + 2*(Hand 2) + 1*(Hand 3)

[U]Invalid Hands[/U] earns 0 = 3*(Hand 1) + 0*(Hand 2) + 1*(Hand 3) -or-
                          3*(Hand 1) + 2*(Hand 2) + 0*(Hand 3) -or-
                          3*(Hand 1) + 0*(Hand 2) + 0*(Hand 3)
5. The number of points will be awarded in the following fashion:

Code:
Remember, points will only count if it's in a [U]valid hand[/U].

    Size W F SF QF R16 R32 R64 R128 | Tournaments applicable

128 Draw 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Grand Slams, Indian Wells, Miami

 64 Draw 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Beijing, Madrid, Premier 5s
                                             Charleston, Birmingham, Eastbourne
                                             Doubles in Grand Slams

 32 Draw 5 4 3 2 1 0 All other tournaments played in singles
Doubles in Premier Mandatory and 5s

 16 Draw 4 3 2 1 0 All other tournaments played in doubles except...
                                             Season Ending Championships

  8 Draw 3 2 1 0 Doubles Year End Championships in Singapore

Players receiving BYE in the draw will earn 0 points if they lose in their first match played.
- If they receive a walkover after they complete a match, points will be awarded.

With Tournament of Championship canceled and replaced by Zhuhai Elite Trophy, amends were made for RR:

          W F SF RR3 RR2 RR1 RR0

Round +3 +2 +1 in addt'l to RR Singles Year End Championships in Singapore
 Robin 3 2 1 0 Elite Trophy

An undefeated winner would earn 3 points in RR and 3 points for winning Singapore.
                                2 Zhuhai.

[I]* Subject to change in case there's a rule change in WTA for the season ending championships.[/I]
6. In the case where a participant successfully picks all the players who advance to the final 6, 9, or 12 in singles:

Code:
The participant is considered to have a Perfect Hand

Perfect hands may have multiple combinations, so...
- Total points earned will be multiplied by 2 after considering the validity of the hands

How to achieve perfect hands?

 32 draw = Pick Winner, Finalist, 2 Semifinalists and 2 of the 4 Quarter-finalists
 64 draw = Pick Winner, Finalist, 2 Semifinalists, 4 Quarter-finalists and any 1 Round 16 achiever
128 draw = Pick Winner, Finalist, 2 Semifinalists, 4 Quarter-finalists and any 4 Round 16 achievers

There are no perfect hands in Round Robins.
- so you are encouraged to pick doubles for Round Robins.

There are no perfect hands with picks involving doubles.
7. In case there's a tie break, the following tie break method will be used.

Code:
- Points acquired in Hand 2 & Hand 3, if equal
- Points acquired in Hand 3, if equal
- Points acquired in Hand 2, if equal
- Correct final games guessed, if equal
- Closer final games guessed, if equal
- Greater of total rankings combined for the players chosen, if equal
- Whoever posted their hands first

So, please list the [U]number of games[/U] played in the final in case final games is needed for determination.

Such as: Final 24 games

How are ranking points determined:

1. Points earned in each tournament is subject to a tournament bonus before points will be added to your ranking.

Code:
Tournament WIN RUP 3-4 5-8 9-16

Grand Slam x10 x8 x6 x4 x2
Premier M. x6 x4.8 x3.6 x2.4 x1.2
Premier 5 x5 x4 x3 x2
Premier x4 x3.2 x2.4 x1.6
2. Participants ranked in the top 8 will enter Singapore automatically (along w/2 alts) ; participants ranked in 9-16 will enter Zhuhai automatically (along w/2 alts).

Code:
              WIN RUP 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th

WTA Finals x20 x18 x16 x14 x12 x10 x8 x6
Elite Trophy x10 x9 x8 x7 x6 x5 x4 x3

If you earned 50 points in Brisbane and were ranked #3, you will earn 50 x 2.4 = 120 ranking points.
3. Maximum 16 tournaments will count in 52-rolling weeks. There are no mandatory tournaments for this game.

Code:
In case there are participants who receive equal points:

- Lesser total number of tournaments participated, if equal
- Points earned in Grand Slams, if equal
- Points earned in Premier Mandatories, if equal
- Points earned in Premier 5, if equal
- Points earned in Premiers, if equal
- Points earned in Internationals*, if equal
- Stay tied

[I]* As of current we do not play Internationals.[/I]

What you need to do in examples.

1. Make a post by listing picks in three groups before main draw begins. Identify your alts clearly and guess the final games for tie break if desired.

Code:
Pick
[I]- We will use results from Brisbane 2013[/I]

Hand 1
- Pavlyuchenkova (Errani)

Hand 2
- Kerber (Stosur)
- Kvitova (Vinci)

Hand 3
- Azarenka (Lisicki)
- Sharapova (Wozniacki)
- S.Williams (Stephens)

Final
- 20 games

Score
[I]- How it's done manually[/I]

Hand 1
> 4
> 4 x 3 = 12, earns 12 points

Hand 2
> 2 + 1 = 3
> 3 < 4 so 3 x 0 = 0, earns 0 points

Hand 3
> Wozniacki replaces Sharapova
> 3 + 0 + 5 = 8
> 8 > 4 + 3, earns 8 points

Total Scored: 12 + 0 + 8 = 20 Points

2015 Changes...

1. Points earned in round robins to change with Elite Trophy replacing Tournament of Champions.

2. Ranking points bonus to change for Singapore as a result.
