NOTE: This thread rests on the assumption that Pierce and Kournikova return to their top ten form.

How many top ten players are there? You can define that as you like. Perhaps the question should be 'How many players are as good as top ten players?'

You'll note I didn't give a choice of 10.

I'm counting the current top ten

Lindsay Davenport
Jennifer Capriati
Venus Williams
Martina Hingis
Kim Clijsters
Serena Williams
Justine Henin
Jelena Dokic
Amelie Mauresmo
Monica Seles

Top ten when injured.

Mary Pierce
Anna Kournikova

IMHO, players who I think would be top ten if they had been this age, and played at this level, five years ago.

Sandrine Testud
Meghann Shaughnessy
Silvia Farina Elia
Elena Dementieva

Which means, in a Tier I with 16 seeds, these players might not even get seeded.

Magdalena Maleeva
Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario
Amanda Coetzer
Iroda Tulyaganova

Which is slightly incredible.

De tour, she ees deeeeep ....

The Tour is gonna get stronger and stronger with more and more depth to it.

Right now i'd say around 15 or so but give another 2-3 years & it will be closer to 25.

What a weird question, I was gonna say 10, but there is not such option!

But I think the tour has more depth now, so I think there'll be more players of top 10 calibre appearing soon. But right now, I'd say around 13-14.

Barring injury, these players are set in the top 8:

Jennifer
Lindsay
Venus
Martina
Kim
Serena
Justine
Monica

Slots 9 and 10 are easily fluctuated back and forth between the likes of:

Dokic
Testud
Mauresmo
Pierce
Kournikova
Dementieva
Aranxta
Coetzer
Tulyaganova

So, I would say 17.

Good thread, Volcana!

I think the tour becoming more and more stronger and having more depth etc.. are a bit exaggerated. I also think that players outside the top ten in the calibre of the top ten are exaggerated. I may be wrong, but this is just my opinion.

I believe we will still see the day when a player or two will have it all their way on the tour.
