19-year-old Guillermo Coria has been banned for seven months for failing a dope test, but check this out:

Said Mark Miles, ATP CEO, "Even though the evidence in this case showed that the supplements consumed by Mr. Coria were contaminated during manufacturing and did not list the banned substance on the label, he still must pay a significant price through suspension and forfeiture of points and prize money."

How unfair is that!

Maybe we should start a petition on his behalf - it seems so unfair if the fault was with the manufacturers.

One thing is that the ban for seven months has its official start date as August 2001, because that is the last time he played a match on the tour, so he has already done four months of it. Having said that, that could have been when he was told he could not play by the ATP.

not Mini Moya as well, 1st Chela now Coria.

So he is gonna share the same fate and lose all his rank pts

Chela bounced back , Coria is better, i hope he can bounce back too.

They set a precedent with Chela.

Wonder what would have happened if it was an US Player ?

pretty unfair ...

i do wonder what will happen if it was a US player ... maybe hide the results of the tests (in track and field that has already happened many times)

also, didn't nathalie tauziat say that some players on the WTA Tour failed a dope test as well?

They'll be making an example of him probably. That's why it's so harsh.

This is ridiculous
What really irks me about these anti-doping laws is that they weed out the innocent nad genuinely mistaken where hundreds more athltes who are genuinely cheating are not being brought to justice.

7 months????? $100,000 fine???? Maybe they should check the ATP authorities to see if they are on something

why do you think that if an american player was tested positive they wouldn't ban them? Isn't it the ATP, it has nothing to do with the United States. And there's also been many american track and field athletes that have been banned as well, like Marion Jones' husband, I don't understand why everything always has to turn into anti-american, what the hell does this have to do with americans.
I do think, though, that it is very stupid to ban players, it's just like that romanian gymast.

it does majorly suck ass for coria as well, such a talent.

but couldnt it turn out for the better? he could be practicing very very hard, and instead of plateuing (you know, leveling off) he can continually improve his tennis to a point.
