It's said that her bad shoulder injury in 2002 (I think) is the reason that her serve went awry. Does anyone know what her serve was like before then? I'd love to see what it looked like.

Her game in 2000 looked so funny; like she was jumping after each groundstroke.

Her serve back then doesn't actually look that different to her current motion - just a quicker version of it.

She certainly dresses better nowadays. :D

But she had BANGS!

After the US Open in 2000, she commented in an interview that her grandmother had a better serve. It's always been the weak spot in her game.

What was bad about her injury is that she started slicing it every time to her opponents forehand. Before (and now) she at least occasionally makes you hit a backhand return.

yeah apparently one of the biggest differneces between now and pre 2002 is that she doesnt slice all the time on the deuce court because of her wayward ball toss which used to make her lean right and only manage to hit a slice

Q: How good did Dementieva serve before 2002?

A: So good, even she got into the Guinness Book of Records. For the slowest serve ever in history, that is. :tape:
