i've seen it one time... but of course i am american and have no clue as to what the british version is like thus i have no basis for a comparrison...
.. but anyways the epidsode i seen was filled with sex... one of the guys went to the school dance with another male then ended up getting beat up and hospitalized later on after he kissed and danced with his guy in public.. one guy tried to commit suicide.. and another was moving away with his bf and basically to me is had alot of gay sex in it and that was about it... and haven't watched it sense...
Thanks for the feedback. The UK original was very funny and very good. I thought more than likely that Joel schmaucher would butcher it. Remember when there was a proposal for Rosanne and Sandra Bernhardt to do an american version of Ab Fab Sacrelige
I haven't seen the British version but have heard how groundbreaking it was. The American version is good, I am hooked on it....although I do get a little embarrassed by the sex in it! Believe it or not! But I like the serial format...
And the season's cliff hanger where Justin gets bashed was so realistic and such a tearjerker! It really was!
oh is that what i seen the season ending? hm.. maybe i would of have understood it alot more if i caught earlier episodes but i got a bit cofused and way too much drama and the sex was like every 5 mins and was way graphic lol
:hearts: I'm so in love with it even though I've seen only three episodes. Its just soooo good. I've downloaded them and that takes forever but they are so worth it. I remember it was downloading all night and then at like 5 in the morning it started to play its theme song and I got up right away!
Well I haven't seen the UK version but I really don't think its all about sex. Sure its a turn on but I think the storyline and the plot are what makes it good truthfully. I mean after every episode i just have this smile on my face or some type of emotion that gets to me!
I've seen a few episodes and I like it especially the guy who used to be the host of Talk Soup. I rented all the episodes of the British one and I'd say they are the same. The American one is on Showtime (cable) so they can have all the explicit sex scenes like the UK one. The young high school kid in the UK one is now on Undeclared this really funny sitcom on Fox.
I know that im going to get shot down for saying this, but I kinda have mixed views of the show. On one hand, Im glad that homosexuality is finally being portrayed in the main stream, but then I really hate all the explicit sex that it shows. I think people get the wrong idea. Not all gay clubs are bath houses. lol-- One of my str8 guy friends watched it and actually asked me if the clubs that I go to were like that, he had no idea. I was like, no, its a tv show, fictional. I do like the story lines, but I just dont like all the explicit sex. Then again, I realize that in American culture, sex sells, so what ever works I guess go with it.
I do agree that gay people should be proud of what and who they are, but you dont need an explict sex show, soft core porn if ya ask me, to feel proud. Dont get me wrong. I am a very sexual person and there is nothing wrong with showing that and being proud of that, but do we really need to show guys getting sucked off on a tv show?
As far as sex in the city and Melrose Place goes, I dont and didnt like those shows either. I think most of the time they are mindless as an empty book. I could care less about the lives of single women in the city. Sexual exploratition can be done in a tasteful way. When it is, it is a beautiful thing. Sex is not bad, but people misunderstand it and I think these stupid shows just fuel the fire of misunderstanding. Im gay and Im proud. Instead of realishing in that fact, I instead try to educate people on how loving and caring gay people can be, not the sexual creatures society believes we are.
The show does have good points. It does show instances of true relationships, but to be honest with you, I hate the drama of the gay world and I choose to not watch a show where drama is in full swing. Thats just my opinion. Im not attacking anyone who watches it, coz it is a ground breaking show in the states. I just wish they would tone it down some.
Hmm I agree with the whole too much sex, like the opening sequence in the first episode...and Babylon in general. But I've discussed this idea that all gays are "sex-crazed." I think it stems from the fact that straight people get to express their sexual energies and frustrations "outloud" while gays are somewhat forced to keep it in, so when we do let it out, its like a damn bursting wide open!
I think that the arguments that Timmbo and adrian present are valid, and this was the argument that raged in the UK. The response to this from the shows producers was that they are not trying to represent all gay people, or gay people at all. What they are btrying to do is tell the story of three gay people.
The thing with trying to capture any culture or group of people is that it is impossible to speak for all people. They are only trying to get a snapshot of one aspect of gay culture.
And I don't think that anyone can deny that drugs, clubs, anonymous sex is apart of gay (and even staight culture).
I am gay myself, but I don't go to gay clubs anymore (the music is too awful, and everyone is trying to pick each other upo). My boyfriend and I and our friends don't especially go to gay bars/clubs/cafes. we weren't born with the Kylie, Madonna and Cher genes that a lot of gay men were born with. But I still thought that the sereies was entertaining and accurate. I know a lot of gay men like the men that were portrayed......
I just have to say to Timmbo that (sorry if I sound completely sappy here) you have got an awesome attitude...I am straight myself but I am an open person and I don't think gay people have anything to be ashamed about. It pisses me off so much when either my friends or my family say something snide or rude about a gay person...just because of their sexuality doesn't make them a lesser person. Anyways....to the subject of the topic, no I haven't seen this show (and I don't like Sex and the City either) but they have a channel up here in Canada that is the first of it's kind in the world apparently, it's called Pridevision and it's 100% gay and lesbian programming.
