Venus won the tournament by winning only 3 matches. In the history of the WTA, has any player won a tournament by winning 2 matches or less?

I remember on the ATP a few years ago a guy won a title by winning 1 match!

In the 1st round his opponent retired hurt, second round he got a walkover, Quarter final he won in 3 sets, semi final his opponent retired injured and also in the final his opponent retired injured

In the Heineken Trophy of 2000... Martina only won 2 completed matches to win the tournament. She had a bye in Round 1, Cara Black gave her a walkover in the quarters and Dragomir retired during the final. Check her route to this trophy out:

1 Bye
2 Jana Nedjedly W 6-3, 6-0
QF Cara Black W walkover
SF Jennifer Capriati W 7-5, 6-2
F Ruxandra Dragomir W 6-2, 3-0, retired

Well we did say history and so veryborednow was correct. Before the Open era, the defending champion of a Grand Slam had automatic entry into the final the next year.

This was stopped in the early 20's and I think it was Lenglan who was the last player to win a challenger-round Grand Slam title.
