Both have 1 slam to their name Imo comparing the two in who has a better what I’ll go with:
Serve - Barty
Forehand - Barty
Backhand - Halep
Footwork - Halep
Speed - Halep
Smashes - Barty
Slice - Barty
Volleys - barty
Touch - Barty
court sense/geometry of court - Barty Tactician mind - Barty
Strategic mind - Barty

Who has the higher peak and who is harder to beat on a good day

P.s I can’t make a poll as I’m using my phone because the sites not that great on all devices... if you don’t wanna say opinions or debate then instead of poll voting just put halep or barty. Did one of these comparisons a while back and someone suggested I do a series. Can’t promise that but hopefully others will start too. It’s quite fun

I still don't really know how to rate Barty mentally because she didn't have to bt a big name/slam winner to win RG.

If she starts beating the likes of Serena, Halep, Svitoina , Osaka ect in slams then we can get a clearer picture.

Barty's got her beat in every department except footspeed, drive backhand, and return of serve.

And I don't think Barty will be satisfied with what she's accomplished. She's absolutely hungry for more. She isn't relieved to have won a major, she's just surprised it happened when it happened, where it happened.

"Talent" is a bs term.

Literally all of these players are talented af in different ways. Movement is a talent. Winning matches is a talent. Tactical awareness is a talent. Hitting hard is a talent.

People act like only some players are "talented" whereas others are just "hardworking" or "fit". Fitness and working hard are talents in their own sense; otherwise everybody would be able to do it.

I know people love to minimise Halep's abilities because her game is very one-dimensional, but saying she's lacking talent is not right.

Obviously Barty does have Simona beat if you look at these categories individually, but looking at individual parts of someone's game and just adding them all up doesn't accurately reflect the full picture. Simona at this point is still the more accomplished and better player. I don't really know if it'll stay this way, but for now...this is where we stand.

Anyway, Barty certainly has a better serve, forehand, net game and more variety, but none of those things are a feature of Simona's game. Simona has made a career out of using almost no variety at all, retrieving everything and being very tough to put away. And there's nothing wrong with that. Not many people could do it. It's a talent. If Barty's game was as one-dimensional as Simona's, where would she be?

I agree that talent is too vague. Do you mean who will have the better career? Who is tougher to play on their good days?
I was disappointed Halep played Cincy after the long Rogers Cup final. I dont think she's been the same since then
But unless Barty wins more majors, she has a long way to go to match Halep who was YE #1 the last 2 years

I think hat made Halep No. 1 was her work ethic. Barty isn't lazy but I think the game comes easier too her.

First I’d like to say that I like ishgevers post a lot and I agree that listing all the aspects of their game doesn’t give the entire picture. Wanted to clarify that when I said talent I meant tennis skill talent rather than individual qualities. That’s what I was asking. But knowing what you and everyone think of who’s tougher to be beat would be interesting but I think that’s down to the opponent they’re playing for example halep can retrieve like an android but when she faces players with a hell of a lot variety and junk ball, then she’s gone. I was asking who has the higher peak as well I guess. Might add these into the question now. Imo though barty relies less on tennis skills than halep does athleticism

Both are supremely talented, let's not pretend that one wins a slam and becomes a mainstay in the top 10 without talent.

Right now if both careers were to end Halep is a hall of fame contender and Barty isn't owing to her weeks at number one and consistency over the last 5 years.

In terms of their shots and game I generally agree with OP, but Halep's return and ability to get to a ball is possibly the best of this era and as that is such a big part of the game these days that is hard to overlook. Basically, I think you have to work harder to beat Halep, but you don't need the weapons that it takes to beat Barty.

the hall of fame of what, she would be on #1 if it was based on who has the most basic game

We get it you don't like Halep. Do you have anything constructive to add...

Simona Halep: 64 weeks at number one and one slam and 3 R-ups.

2018 HoF Inductees:
Michael Stitch 0 weeks number one (CH #2 1 slam and 2 r-ups
Helena Sukova 0 weeks number one (CH #4) 0 slam and 4 r-ups.

Granted there are other conditions that affect HoF induction but on an objective comparison of people who have been inducted and their achievements I don't see how Halep would not be considered as a potential entrant. I'm not saying it will happen but it is more likely than Barty (if both careers were to end right now).

Barty is a bit better, but both are average at best

I will only mention the top talents of both.

Halep’s talents include her down the line backhand which is very precise, her footwork and balance which I would say is the best on tour and her ability to hit the stock rally shot from both wings deep with consistency is again best in tour.

Barty’s talents include the snappy and technically sound first serve that allows her to get lots of aces and the best serve game statistics in tour. Her slice which against women is a great weapon and she plays them very low over the net even from defensive positions. And finally her natural feel of the ball which is the best on tour and allows her to be creative and adaptable.

Talent wise it is clearly Ash, but that is only half the story to win matches.

The OP included several categories you mentioned lol.

Halep talented ? Sure she's a hard worker. But talented, really ?
Yes, really.
It’s plain stupid to think you get to #1 in the world in such a competitive sports without any talent

We can discuss who is more talented of the 2.
