No thread? Sam gave more of a fight than I expected against Kenin. Quite a good run for her this tournament. She's gotten that MD entry at AO sealed up now.

Kenin winning another title beating all the players she should beat. Really impressive from the 20 year old! She overcame slow starts again and again in this tournament to win. Love her fighting spirit! She's going to be a top 20 mainstay for sure if she maintains this level. Keep it up! :cheer:

Beat me to the new thread while I was writing the great tennis novel.
I only saw the 13 min highlights of the match on YT -- KTV studio -- I had to hit the star at the bottom to increase the quality to 720 in order to see the ball.

Stosur was very much the aggressor in the 1st set and won 7-6. Stosur hit --9-- aces in the match and appeared to hit 3 aces in a row at 0-2 in the 2nd set.
In the 1st set Stosur was the aggressor and Kenin the defender, which is unusual for Kenin as she normally tries to dominate.
-
Half way thru the 2nd set to the end of the match the players switched roles, and Kenin dominated Stosur with her groundies, which reduced Stosur to being a defender. Stosur as a defender is going to lose.
-
Great week for Stosur as she moved up 37 spots to #92 and probably a main draw spot in the AO without a WC.
Fatigue may have been a problem for the 35 y/o as she played 5 matches this week, which hasn't happened in a long time.

Great week for 20 y/o Kenin as she moves up to #17 and wins her 3rd title of the year.

Watching a replay on SuperTennis now.

I see this is another match this week where Kenin plays with the thigh strapping. I wonder if she has anything left for Wuhan/Beijing now?

Nobody seems that bothered about this

Fair play to Kenin though, the draw got depleted but she managed to take advantage of it, that's signs of a top player.

A fair few of the top 32 would have failed in that situation.

I was not expecting her to get so far in the tournament but what a fantastic week it's been for Sam! I hope Stubbsy stays on as her coach.

Not a fan but Kenin has been pretty impressive this year.

great win for sonja. 44 match wins & 3 titles for the year for the most under the radar player of 2019.

slow start, but once she gained control from 4-4 in the second set, it was n.i.d.

it's easy to see why some on tennis forum aren't fans, she has this never give up mentality, lots of come ons, and is very much like playing a blowfly, you can't get rid of her. ( basically, she plays much better than she looks.) THAT IS A COMPLIMENT.

other players appear to have a better game, but don't have her mentality. very similar to bianca, but not as heavier game.

the strapping didn't appear to restrict her, but maybe a rest is due. she has played a lot this year.

sam played pretty well for most of the match. maybe a little tired at the end.

i don't think there is a player who hits so many off the frame.

Couldn't see the match but congrats to Sonya. This girl has so much will to win and she's not going to stop until she achieves it. Unless exhaustion and/injury get in her way, she will be hard to beat in the coming year.

Sam did better than I thought she would! :) At 4-4 in the second set I thought if she held there she would take it. Would be nice if Stubbs would ditch ESPN to help revive her friend's career but I don't see it happening.

Kenin winning her 3rd international of the year, impressive even if the competition was only really decent in Mallorca. However I hope her and her father are considering fatigue. It feels like she plays every week. This is her 22nd tournament of the year and going deep in the smaller ones is only going to make her tired for the bigger ones.

Congrats to Sofia!!! :)
Her will to win is soooo great, and will take her far in her career. She definitely looks worn out though... I wish she’d withdraw from Wuhan or Beijing

Stosur showing some signs of life again! Probably enough to keep her playing another season beyond Australian season next year, she won't need qualifying for many tournaments, certainly not the slams.

Kenin is feisty and all that but her game combined with her lack height has me skeptical of her long term top level success. Like, I can see her floating in the bottom half of the top 10 and top 20 for a long time, but I'd be surprised if she were a top 5 mainstay or multi-slam champion.
