Hingis 97 (3 GS, 9 tour titles), 98 (1 GS, 4 tour titles inc Chase Champs), 99 (1 GS, 6 tour titles), 00 (10 tour titles inc Chase Champs)

Obviously I am biased!! BTW Venus only had great end June-end September in both 2000 and 2001, so not a whole season. I know you'll probably tear me apart for saying that but it is true, and yes she did have a fantastic run.

I don´t really think that Jen´s ´01 was that great, ´cause after all she only had three titles!! I think Serena´s 02 was even way better/ greater than Venus run during the summer/ fall in ´00.

I think you better start deciding what's really important.

When talking about Kim, she has the titles but no GS, therefore no great season.

When you bring up someone with 2 GS + 1 title, again no great season?

From the Australian Open in 1969 to the French Open in 1971, Margaret Court lost only one- YES ONE match in Grand Slam play:

1969 WON Australian (def. Billie Jean King)
1969 WON French (def. Ann Haydon Jones)
1969 SF Wimbledon (lost to champion Ann Haydon Jones)
1969 WON U.S. Open (def. Nancy Richey)
1970 WON Australian (def. Kerry Melville)
1970 WON French (def. Helga Masthoff Niessen)
1970 WON Wimbledon (def. Billie Jean King)
1970 WON U.S. Open (def. Rosie Casals)
1971 WON Australian (def. Evonne Goolagong)

THAT WAS AN AMAZING RUN!!!

My bad that was a terrible oversite.

MONICA SELES 91-92...(93 A.o. what other titles?)

I don't care if a player didn't play a complete sesaon, if she won two slams she had a great season.

Notice I only put Slam champions on my list

8 titles
2 grand slam semifinals
1 grand slam final

That's not great ?

I only said that Jen´s ´01 season wasn´t that great in comparison to other great years. Never said that Kim´s play this year warrants nomination for a great year. If you compare the great years all had more than 3 titles, in combination with slams. 3 titles are a bit too little IMO.

IF

Kim wins a slam this year, she'd def. make the list, but that's the difference between a good year and a great year.

I can't think of a single player in the open -era who was considered GREAT, yet never won a slam, of course that doesn't mean all those who have managed to win a slam are considered great either. Kim has time on her side, but she hasn't earned a nomination ...

I think the best player in the Open Era to have never won a major is Rosie Casals- she beat all the best players in the world at one time or another- Court, King, Evert, Goolagong, Wade, but never made it past them in a Grand Slam Final (lost U.S. Open 70 to Court, 71 to King)
