What made Lesley Bowrey step down? I thought she was a wonderful captain. She boosted an ailing Australian women's team by recruiting an unknown junior named Jelena Dokic, and that in turn inspired the resurgence Australian women's tennis. As a result, Rachel McQuillan found form again, and Nicole Pratt consistently ranked around the 40-70 region. Bowrey was also responsible for encouraging Alicia Molik and Evie Dominikovic to step up to the plate. The only person who had a real beef with Bowrey was Rennae Stubbs, who's interchangeable.

Evonne is a more-than-welcome addition to the team though. Let's hope she can push the girls with more intensity than Bowrey. It's hard to imagine Evonne being a stern captain, but oh well.

That's great news. I must admit I knew about Lesley departing way back in July. I think it was a case of she jumped before she was pushed!

Oh!! Evonne is such a great player. I think she'll be able to impart her knowledge to the other players on her team. Maybe they'll improve because of her <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">
