Spectacular images from from the Golden Age Djoule--

Merci Beaucoup!:worship:

Golding must have been a quality player, as evidenced by the time she led Lenglen 4-0.

The shoes intrigue me-they look almost like ballerina shoes with the ribbons around the ankles. The photos with Golding and Lenglen side by side provide the best view of footwear.

Here is her French wiki page:

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germaine_Golding

Germaine was very close to winning the French title in 1910-losing a tight final to Jeanne Matthey 1-6 6-1 9-7

in 1914 she reached the final of the World Hard Court title-Suzanne Lenglen ran away with the final 6-2 6-1.

She caused a stir in 1922 when she led Lenglen 4-0 in the French National final. Suzanne recovered to sweep 12 consecutive games for the match.

She was also a semifinalist at the 1924 Olympics in Paris. She lost to Helen Wills in the semis and then Kitty McKane in the bronze medal match 5-7 6-3 6-0

Her career was a long one-from at least 1910 to 1933, the last year she competed at Roland Garros.
