filipina tennis player arrives in botswana

lindsay anne sarile has arrived in gabrone, botswana to practice for the unity cup. she would play with jane wong in the doubles. the winner of the manila challenger a few weeks back, sarile hopes to enjoy working with underprivileged kids in africa as she came from poverty herself, growing in the slums of manila. she expresses her views with regards to this tournamen

"i think its wonderful there are exhibitions like these to help charity. i know very well how difficult it is for a kid to grow without any visible form of hope. tennis is a great sport for them to learn. it has helped with so much in my life and also my family."

Sarile plans to donate all of her winnings, if any, in this tournament to the charitable institutions directed by the tournament. lindsay anne speaks of ruflina taliamanosoko, the tour organiser and an FWTT player.

"ruflina is a good friend. she is one of the few people who encouraged me when i first came into the FWTT. i was not suprised that she sponsors events like these because she has such a giving nature. she is truly a model player."

lindsay anne sarile also reacts to some cutting remarks made by a fellow FWTT player, madonika diva jafhson, towards sarile in a press conference.

"(gives a wry smile) you know, its quite ridiculous how one player insults another for no sane reason at all. i hope she would find pleasure in anything she does in her life. i have tried to be so open and understanding to everyone on tour but i just dont get her."

sarile and wong is unseeded in this exhibition.

Mary Wong and Jane Wong face off

In tomorrow feature match, Mary and Jane will battle for the first encounter between the two sisters in Ruflina exhibition. Jane said, 'wow, this is a very hard first round, it is also signify the beginning of our career, we both really yound, Mary is only 15, and I am not even 20, so we will have a lot of match to come. But I thing I will tell you for sure, we will fight our heart out, I know me and Mary hate losing.'

Mary said, 'I am really excited, we are still gonna practise together, there is no questions about that, we will just treat this as normal, but I will try my best to beat big sis, it is always big sis wins in previous encounter but I want to win, but I know big sis is probably the best player on clay, so I will be an underdog for definite.'

Two up-and-comers learn tough lesson on tour

Paula Masterton and Nicole Lamarc-Safina were fined $1000 today by the FWT Tour because of enrolling in duel tournaments at the same time and withdrawing from neither.

Exhibiton coordinator, Ruflina Taliamanosoko, spoke of this. "Several players were entered in both my tournament and the challenger in Mexico City. I was able to notify most, but I did not catch all of them. Paula had asked me about replacing her with her friend, Linzi Reilly, and I told her we couldn't do that. I should have recommended to her that she withdraw from Mexico City. I am sorry for any problems this may cause."

filipina loses in opener in botswana
Lindsay Anne Sarile poses for pics

in the first match of the unity cup charity exhibition in gabrone, botswana, filipina number 1 in FWTT and world number 49 lindsay anne sarile bowed out to 6th seeded selima valentine in straight sets. 7-6 6-0. after losing the first set, valentine took on cruise control as sarile made one error after another. valentine won on her first match point when sarile netted a backhand onto the net.

comments from lindsay anne, "i feel bad that i would not be able to give more to the children of africa, at least in singles. i hope to do more in doubles with mary wong."

an autograph session with lindsay anne sarile is also slated with three other players, mary wong, regla torres and nicole arenot.

sarile and wong would play their first doubles match tomorrow.

Madonika comments on Sarile's loss "Aww Serile feels bad because she couldn't contribute more to the children of Africa...it's ok, I'll do the job for her since she has absolutely no skill! Go back to the junior, you scrub! BRING IT BABY! BRING IT!"
