LAMANKE-HUBER WINS BRAZILIAN CLASH

Nicole Lamanke-Huber and Gisele Noventz have many similarities. They are both brazilians, both from the same city, from the same tennis club. They basically grew up together. They really have a "sister" link.

Earlier today, on the Centre Court of the Mount Gambier Challenge all this link was forgotten on the 1st round match which Nicole outplayed Gisele 3-6 6-3 7-6.

"I was really anxious to play her, cause we are very close friends and I knew I had a big chance because I know her game very well."

Nicole overcame a shaky start, where Gisele broke her serve twice to race a 3-0 lead in 6 minutes. "I was shocked. Things were going too fast". But Nicole immediatly bounced back to tie the match 3-all and eventually lost the first set 6-3. Gisele hit only two second serves on the 1st set.

"I basically could do nothing on her serve. They were very deep and well-placed."

The players continued to pound the ball from baseline to baseline in front of an enthralled audience. But it was Nicole who won the bigger points in the second set. At 3-2 down, she narrowly held on to his serve before breaking Gisele in the next game to set up a 6-3 set win.

The match kept thrilling in the third set, where players displayed the best level of the tournament. There were only 3 unforced errors from each player. No player lost serve until they went to the tie-breaker, where Nicole breezed 7-4 and sealed the victory with kisses and waves to the crowd.

"The crowd was very supportive today. The best thing was that they were supportive to both of us. So it didn't feel like that one-sided thing. They just loved us because the match was so exciting. It's a nice feeling."

Nicole Lamanke-Huber will face Jelena Jovic on the quarterfinals of the Mount Gambier 25K challenge. Jovic upset 2nd seed Paula Masterton in the first round.

Gisele loses Brazilian battle
The all confidence Brazilian girl, lost to her compatriot Nicole Lamanke Huber, in three tight sets. "I'm not so happy with my performance, cause I was in germany playing doubles. I was tired. But I tried, and I could win." said Gisele who won a traditional event in doubles with Marteena Huubere last week in Baden Open. Gisele, the younger of both Brazilians, said she learn a lot from this match and that she wouldn't disappoint anyone with her performance "I hope I can mantain my nerves calm in another match, cause today I wasn't able to contain. I knew I would not make a bad match." Noventz said.
Gisele will play doubles with her friend Carmen Prado, from Spain, who advanced on the tournament.
Gisele Noventz, gets focus to return Lamanke-Huber's serve, on the tie-break of the third set. Noventz lost the match by 6-3 3-6 6-7
