After a few days back at home in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Miele sisters' hometown, the sisters arrived today in Costa Rica for the Coffee Bowl, the next event at the FWTT Juniors Tour.

Lara Miele, 16, currently ranked 3rd in the world, has recieved a bye in the first round and will face the winner of Fernandez and Nadal. Lara has still to break a tabboo: she has never won a Grade A match. How does she keep the ranking? With consistency on lower events.

Barbara Miele, 15, has recently cracked the top 10 with a semifinal result at the Eddie Herr Junior Championships, is unseeded at this tournament. She will face in first round Meghann Adeva.

On a press conference, the sisters stated:
Lara: "We are very excited with this upcoming year. We both had very good results but we still want more. We want to be #1 and #2 of the world. Also, we want to be #1 in doubles. We had everything to reach it in the beginning of the season, but we lost some matches that we could have won and this time we won't waste our opportunities. Can't wait anything!"

Barbara: "I'm obviously very happy for this next year, but not so happy for 2001. I should have done much better than I did, so I've trained very hard on my weaknesses to get better. You will see a new Barbara in 2002, be sure!"

The Miele Sisters will face the winner of Keller/Van Krumpt and Hingis/Pierce in doubles. They recieved a first-round bye

Anna Kournikova-Elia's declarations:

Despite the fact she is now playing fwtt pro, she want to say something to her last doubles partner N Dlhopolcova.

After being playing with her a few weeks, and in spite of the fact they got excellent results (two finals and one semis in only 3 weeks), Anna Kournikova-Elia is very afraid and angry with Nataly:
"She is a bad person, a very very bad person". She is arrongant and stupid. She told me a few times she hated and would like to kill Marta Maria Conde Martínez (died last week on stranges circunstances). Now I'm very afraid, she is totally crazy. Zerene Fernandez should be careful. Dlhopolcova should visit psychiatry.

It's all what I want to say. Thanks

Dlhopolcova Surprised By Comments Of Former Partner

Statement by Natalya Dlhopolcova:

"I am quite surprised that Anna would make such a hurtful comment to me, I expected much more of her. In the time we played together, I thought we developed a friendship and would keep in contact even after she decided to turn professional, and I wished her all the best. For her to turn around and make such arrogant comments really disgusts me and I think it shows the true colours and image of her. When she decides to grow up and act a bit more mature for her age I will take her seriously. I am sure such remarks would be greatly looked down on in the professional circuit."

When asked about the statement made towards Conde-Martinez, Dlhopolcova denied such remarks: "I don't know Marta Maria, so for me to want her dead is quite strange I think. Obviously Anna is in need of a psychiatrist if she is so insecure with herself that she must make pathetic attempts to belittle other tour player. I think her comment was an insult to Marta Maria's passing. I am thankful I am playing with Zerene now. She and many others know what kind of person I am, and that is what matters to me. Anna can think what she likes, but my friends know I am a good person. I think Anna is probably upset and jealous because she didn't get to play singles for Eastern Europe at CCC because I had more recent success. I also backed that up by winning my singles matches there. Plus I think it was obvious by the reaction of our captain Anita Kinsip, that Anna was not impressing her with her poor doubles form which caused us to lose. It was unfortunate that she appeared to be trying to make us lose, but it's her own loss, not mine. I will not concern myself with her childness."

Zerene Fernandez made the following statement:

"I don't really know who Kournikova-Elia is. I guess she's never really been important enough for me to find out about. Anyway, if Natalya is crazy, more power to her because so am I. I was even in the hospital on tranquilizers a few weeks back but I'm not supposed to talk about it so I'm not going to say anything else. The fact remains that Natalya is a good player and carried Kournikova-Smellia the entire time. Anyway, I have a dinner date so that's all I have to say about that."

Katarina Kriventcheva-Molik's press conference statement:

" First, I am still deeply saddened by the Conde-Martinez sisters deaths. I hope their bodies may be recovered. BUt, I am playing doubles with HARLOW. Who ever this player is, please contact me so we can discuss points! Second, I have just become friends with Natalya, (at the Maureen Connolly Championships) playing for Eastern Europe, and well she is not crazy. Kournikova-Elia must take a look at herself. That is all I have to say. I wish all the best to Natalya in her future endeavours. Have a nice day."
