Miki is very close to the Top 50 after another season of maintaning her Top 60 status and producing some strong tennis amid a few dry spells. She has the potential to gain some ground on the swift indoor surfaces that await in the year's remaining events.

She's already gotten back to the Top 50 for a bit, but will she be able to achieve her first season-ending Top 50 finish since 1999?

A good chance awaits in her beloved Quebec, if she produces the kind of tennis we've been seeing. She reached the semifinals last year and will hopefully be eager to assert her big game on a familiar winning stage.

Here's her half of the draw, as No. 3 seed:

(7)Rodina v Q
Sadikovic v Boserup
Bellis v Q
Q v (3)Lucic-Baroni

(5)Broady v Dodin
Vickery v Tig
Kostova v Van Uytvanck
Mattek-Sands v (2)Beck

Good luck, Miki, and have fun in beautiful Quebec City. (This is the final year for this WTA event)

So, other than Pliskova, who is playing the tennis of her life, Miki played the tightest match against Kerber. Good luck in Quebec. I was hoping to sneak up there for the semis like I did last year, but looks like that is not in the cards this time.

Here's hoping she doesn't draw qualifier Davis in R1--or in R2...

Anything short of reaching the SF will be a disappointment.

Her R1 opponent, Lao, is just about the lowest-ranked player in the draw (#364).

Her potential R2 opponents, Bellis/Hesse, are also both ranked much lower than Mirjana.

It'll be a shame if Mirjana blows this opportunity.

Lao has two matches under her belt having beaten Sesil K and Jaksic. Bellis is better than her ranking.

Miki somewhat struggled with Hesse in that 50 k indoor tournament she won in France in 2013.

But, yes, Miki should beat any of the three in straights on this surface if she is playing halfway decently.

Mirjana sucking total goat-tit so far in her "encounter" with tomato-can Danielle Lao.

Playing moronic tennis. If she loses to this crap player ...

Lao is junking the fu$k out of her. A USTA 4.0 would be proud.

But Miki doesn't have to aim for the rafters. Good grief.

When she has to hit more than 3 shots in a rally...................she can't do it.

Lao is smartly mixing up the pace, but Mirjana should be able to wait for the openings. Obviously, Lao is not giving her anything.
