Let’s go Jo!! Got it done in the nick of time at the end. I would mention how she needs to stop these mind blanks in the second sets, but the way she’s dealing with closing out these 3 setters is great, definitely improved from all of those tight losses against Kerber, Venus, ostapenko etc last year.
Onwards and upwards, she could make good use of the draw with the unfortunate withdrawal of Bertens. Every win is slowly pushing that ranking up even more!
I think this match was a combination of Jo's mentality gonig walkabout and Davis' relentless fight and refusal to give up at any point. Jo did really well though to save 3 BPS and ultimately serve out the match. Her backhand DTL is looking deadly. :hearts:
What an opportunity she now has make the second week of Roland Garros... When is the last time a British woman did that? Jo Durie, 1983???
Too bad for Lauren... as she had the cleaner match. Had more winners, and less errors than Konta. Hopefully Lauren will continue on the upward, after being in such a slump for awhile. She should remain right around Top 100 after the FO.
Jesus what a nervy match from Jo :hysteric: supposedly she is suffering from a cold and she looked a little jaded at times but pushed through. There were patches where she looked very good, but also patches where it was a complete shitstorm. First slam R3 since Wimbledon 2017 :sobbing:
R3 at RG though :hearts: Kuzmova next round is tough. Very dangerous and Jo must bring her best level to that one. Thankfully has a day's rest. With the draw she has, and the form that she's in on this surface compared to the rest of the players in her section, she really should make the quarterfinals now. However, knowing Jo, she will likely choke it away to someone as she almost did to Bencic here
Anyway, grateful for the points boost and she's up to 24 in the live ranks for now. Onwards, clay princess :cheer:
