For those of you in the US and for those of you around the world who get the Fox News Channel, Bill O'Rreilly had a segment tonight on what the French crowd did to Serena yesterday. He is angry and continuing to ask Americans to stay away from France (his boycott, which I didn't support until now, has worked; many Americans have canceled trips to France and the French have admitted privately that the boycott is hurting French tourism). He also saiid that this type of thing could get dangerous for Americans travelling abroad or participating in sporting tournaments in countries that didn't support our war against Iraq. The Fox correspondent that he was interviewing was disgusted with what he witnessed and he said that in the 20 years he has been covering the French Open, this was the nastiest crowd he has ever seen. O'Reilly thinks most of it has to do with the French not supporting us in the war, but most tennis fans know what the real deal was.

If you want to catch a rerun of the program, it will be on at 11:00PM EDT, 8:00 PDT.

i will not participate in such as that. the french did not cheer for justine because they wanted the "american" to lose. they didn't for justine because serena is black. they are huge justine fans in france. there were many belgiums there. SOME americans are so classless. they always want to start trouble. every reason for serena losing to justine was a fabrication. that man loved that it happened to have another reason to hate the french. i wish some americans would act more like french people.

I would be impressed but considering he's been on an anti-French kick for a while its hard to really believe.
You have to see the entire interview, which I did. He was pretty angry at what he saw was the pettines of the French and that, in his mind, Serena could have been physically harmed by the hostile crwod. He used what happened to her as an example as to why Americans must boycott the French to send a message to them that their ill treatment of American citizens who are guests in their country won't be tolerated.

No. He is saying that Americans should stop buying French made products that are exported to the US. French fries were created in Belguim.

An andendum to what I orginally wrote. The FOX reporter also sid that the few Americans who were in the crowd were cheering wildly for Serena, but stopped because the French people who were around them gave them looks are if they were going to hurt these people. I don't know if he was exaggerating, but if what he said was true, then those people were savages, not true fans of tennis.

This guy sounds pretty pathetic and childish  Boycott an entire country and it's products because of a tennis crowd? That sounds rather immature to me... what's he going to do next, stick his tongue out at Chirac? *shakes head and walks away*

I doubt any french fans were looking at American with the idea of hurting them  I've never been to any major sporting events but I can tell you that even in high school sports, I've gone to away games and gotten dirty looks, just as people from other schools surely got dirty looks at our home games... that's just normal, it's part of sports... this guy is obviously trying to make the french population look like a bunch of idotic maniacs who are out to harm Americans which is totally not true :( He fails to mention how the french crowd were bowing down to Andre and other Americans so I highly doubt americans should fear for their safety while in france

Bill has a few vendettas going. I'm surprised he didn't blame Hillary Clinton or George Clooney for the Serena situation ;)

I don't really watch his program. I don't like when people are so dismissive and aggressive with their own viewpoint. I made a point before that the American media, while some don't even pay attention to tennis, others like O'Reilly are just using this as an excuse to bash the French for their political stance. Tonight I will watch and see exactly what was up.

I suggest you go back and read my original post. He (O'Reilly) believes that Serena was treated the way she was treated because of the US war vs. Iraq, which France didn't support and because of the nonsupport, and the pathetic way Serena was treated, the Americans should continue to boycott France.
