she is the only one of these players that continues playing in the tour (not only double matches like Navratilova), she continues surprising with her game, Conchita deserves a great mention, ten years ago she won there and next week will come back for doing great tennis.

I´m completely sure :D :D :D :)

vamos conchita!!!!!!!!!

I was there for that 81 final; Evert was relentless. The Evert-Bassett final in 83 was spectacular, and Navratilova's drubbing of Evert in 1984 was amazing. It's one of very few matches where I felt Evert believed she was completely incapable, and Navratilova knew she was invincible. I always thought this was somewhat of a turning point -- I know Martina beat Chris to win the French later that year, easily, but this was the match where I think Chris realized once and for all that Martina had her number and would continue to have it unless she worked a bit harder at the game.

Yep, I think that those two finals are key in their rivalry, Jem, certainly from Martina's perspective. The first one marked the low point in Navratilova's year-long slump 80-81 and finally forced her to get her life, head, body and game in order. By the end of that summer, she beat Evert to reach the US final and then went on to win the Aussie Open at the end of the year and there began her amazing 5 year-long domination. The 84 final marked the first time that Martina had beaten Chrissie on clay and set her up for the RG win over Chris two months later where she conceded 4 games in the final.
