Who will be the first to put together enough Grand Slam wins in 2002 to acquire a career slam?(all 4 GS titles in a career rather than a calendar year)
1. Davenport - Needs RG win to go along with her Wimby, Open and Oz wins. Not an exceptional clay courter and knees are getting worse with age. Davey is not likely to get this 4th gem ever in her great career.
2. Capriatti - Needs Open and Wimby for the crown jewel and to do that she would have to probably defeat VENUS twice. Like that is going to happen.
3. VENUS - Needs the Oz and Roland Garros to have the Career Slam. VENUS is a slow starter and even though she could win RG, a quick start would be necessary to take Oz and the CS.
4. Hingis - Best and worst chance of most players. Needs only the RG and is a good clay courter, but seems to have lost her nerve in 2001.
In conclusion, the odds of fans seeing a Career Slam this year by any of the above mention players would be slim at best.
