That Osaka and Barty won the first time they got this far is a good sign for Svitolina
Of all the players left, she is arguably the best. I said that before she won the YEC, on her good weeks, she can beat anyone

Updated with Strycova & Svitolina.

Will the USO bring the run to 6 slams in a row?

Well done to Svit and I saw most of her comeback in the first set v Much and she showed good attitude. I think she has a decent chance to win it.

I love that Barbie made it, I saw a lot of her match v Mertens and she played really without fear and managed to channel her energy correctly..

I am impressed by Svito though and I remember when she was younger and Kasatkina reminds me a lot of her, but Dash will have to sort herself out soon to follow Svito

6 in a row is nothing compared what the WTA endured between Wimbledon 2013 (Kirsten Flipkens) and Wimbledon 2017 (Magdalena Rybarikova) when they had 17 consecutive GS Tournaments in a row with at least one 1st Time Grand Slam Semifinalist and occasionally they had even two.

Wimbledon 2013: Kirsten Flipkens

US Open 2013: Flavia Pennetta

Australian Open 2014: Eugenie Bouchard

Roland Garros 2014: Simona Halep & Andrea Petkovic

Wimbledon 2014: Lucie Safarova

US Open 2014: Peng Shuai & Ekaterina Makarova

Australian Open 2015: Madison Keys

Roland Garros 2015: Timea Bacsinsczky

Wimbledon 2015: Garbine Muguruza

US Open 2015: Roberta Vinci

Australian Open 2016: Johanna Konta

Roland Garros 2016: Kiki Bertens

Wimbledon 2016: Elena Vesnina

US Open 2016: Karolina Pliskova

Australian Open 2017: Coco Vandeweghe

Roland Garros 2017: Jelena Ostapenko

Wimbledon 2017: Magdalena Rybarikova

I doubt that Streak will be broken but who knows:confused:

The streak extends to 6, with either Vekic or Bencic becoming a first time semi-finalist at the USO!

Bencic is the favourite for sure.
Julia Görges choked really hard vs Vekic.

Bencic is due a semi final, if not over due - it was only a matter of time. Vekic would be more of a surprise although not out of place given the list of recent first time semi finalists.

Bencic and Andreescu are serious contenders and I'll be surprised if they dont play each other.
But its mental in week 2, so they have to stay calm and focused

I know there's a thread going about the streak of maiden slam SFists somewhere. But do you guys think we'll see such a run in Melbourne in 2020? There was a lot of them in 2019: Collins, Anisimova, Barty, Vondrousova, Svitolina, Strycova, Bencic, and Andreescu. That's half of all the SF slots going to first-timers.

Who is most likely to accomplish this at the Australian? Everyone in Top 10 has reached a slam semi. The highest ranked player to not make that slam round is Sabalenka at 11.
